  • Publication number: 20190341075
Abstract: A sequence of symbols is generated to describe a set of write data, the symbols having a length of nT, where T is a channel clock rate and n is an integer over a predetermined range. Bi-directional write currents are applied to a write pole to record the sequence of symbols to a magnetic storage medium. The write pole has an effective footprint with a downtrack length of mT, where m is an integer. The write currents are switched between a first rail current and a second rail current for alternating symbols, the write currents further transitioning to an intermediate current value for at least one channel clock period for symbols longer than 1T. Write currents are applied to the write pole when recording symbols having a length longer than mT using the effective footprint of the write pole as an interval.

  • Publication number: 20190222636
Abstract: A control-plane component of a virtual network interface (VNI) multiplexing service assigns one or more VNIs as members of a first interface group. A first VNI of the interface group is attached to a first compute instance. Network traffic directed to a particular endpoint address associated with the first interface group is to be distributed among members of the first interface group by client-side components of the service. The control-plane component propagates membership metadata of the first interface group to the client-side components. In response to a detection of an unhealthy state of the first compute instance, the first VNI is attached to a different compute instance by the control-plane component.

  • Patent number: 10210887
Abstract: Systems and methods for a providing a chirped current profile with an undershoot for a channel preamplifier are described. A method for writing bits in a magnetic recording disc may include applying an overshoot to a write current which is supplied to a magnetic writer of the magnetic recording disc and applying an undershoot to the write current after the overshoot is applied to at least partially de-saturate the magnetic writer. The method may also include writing a bit to the magnetic recording disc with the magnetic writer using the supplied write current. In some examples, the application of a short negative pulse after an overshoot portion of the write current waveform is delivered to the head during a write operation that writes the bit to the magnetic recording disc.

  • Publication number: 20180353278
Abstract: Current surgical techniques to repair hiatal hernias including pulling the stomach down and out of the hiatus to reposition it properly on the posterior side of the diaphragm, and patching the hiatus and or applying basic mesh to repair the hiatus and esophageal membrane. However, despite these techniques, the anatomic hernia recurrence rate for hiatal hernia repair is over 50% at 5 years. Accordingly, the present disclosure discloses a new funnel shaped mesh that can be implanted during hiatal hernia repair surgery that would function effectively as a phrenoesophageal membrane and reduce recurrence rates dramatically. The mesh could have the narrower portion attach to the esophagus, while the larger diameter funnel top could adhere to the diaphragm.

  • Patent number: 9963937
Abstract: A downhole rotational rate control apparatus is disclosed, adapted for coupling to the lower end of a drill string, and includes a progressive cavity (PC) pump or motor, multiple fluid flow paths, and a flow control valve for controlling fluid flow in the flow paths. Drilling mud flowing downward through the drill string is partially diverted to flow through the PC pump or motor and, in turn, the PC pump or motor speed is controlled by the flow control valve. The control valve can be actuated by a control motor in response to inputs from a sensor assembly in an electronics section. The PC pump or motor drives a controlled downhole device at a specific zero or non-zero rotational rate. By varying the rotational rate of the PC pump or motor relative to the rotational rate of the drill string, the tool face orientation or non-zero rotational speed of the controlled device in either direction can be varied in a controlled manner.
