  • Patent number: 5246125
Abstract: A tamper indicating closure having a threaded cap and a tamper indicating band connected to the cap by frangible webs and by a tether structure which permits threaded attachment of the closure to the container with the band positioned below an annular flange on the container so that unthreading of the cap permits deformation of the tether structure until all of the webs are fractured after which unthreading causes the tether structure to pull a localized area of the band over the annular flange to permit removal of the band and cap as a unit from the container.

  • Patent number: 5061173
Abstract: Injection-blow molding apparatus in which maximum mold density is obtained by alternate arrangement of circumferentially continuous blow molds and injection molds, with axial mold closure being obtained by neck forming and shoulder forming sleeves concentrically located around the cores which are reciprocated into and out of the molds.

  • Patent number: 5056675
Abstract: A tamper indicating closure for application to a container neck. The closure includes a cap having a top and an internally threaded skirt. A tamper indicating band depends from the bottom of the cap skirt by circumferentially spaced frangible connections. The band has ratchet teeth which engage ratchet teeth on the container neck, and a permanent tether rib connects the band to the cap so that the band remains with the cap when the closure is unthreaded from the container neck.

  • Patent number: 5040692
Abstract: A tamper indicating closure for application to a container neck. The closure includes a cap having a top and an internally threaded skirt. A tamper indicating band depends from the bottom of the cap skirt by circumferentially spaced frangible connections. The band has ratchet teeth which engage ratchet teeth on the container neck one at a time during threading-on and unthreading of the cap from the container neck.

  • Patent number: 4993570
Abstract: A tamper indicating container and container-closure package in which the tamper indicating band is integrally molded on the container neck with connecting frangible webs. The tamper indicating band has circumferentially spaced pawls on its top which co-act with a circumferential array of ratchet teeth at the lower end of the closure cap skirt to prevent removal of the cap upon application of opening torque without fracture of the frangible webs indicating tampering or initial opening. The closure of the container-closure package includes a cap skirt having a wall portion which recesses the cap ratchet teeth and overlaps the tamper indicating band of the container so as to keep the ratchet locking mechanism out of the view of a person endeavoring to tamper with the package.

  • Patent number: 4941815
Abstract: An apparatus for forming a unitary molded container with a special neck configuration such as a drain-back neck with integrally molded internal threads and a pouring spout. The apparatus comprises a circumferentially continuous sleeve which surrounds the core rod in an injection-blow molding machine.

  • Patent number: 4941580
Abstract: A dispensing closure having a base ring with means for attachment to a container which permits rotation of the ring without axial movement. A lid is connected to the base ring by a hinge which allows the lid to be swung from a closed position blocking access to a container opening to an open dispensing position. A cam element on the lid effects initial movement of the lid towards an open position when the base ring is rotated. The lid cam element cooperates with a cam surface on the container. A fitment can also be used to attach the closure to a flat can top or to other container configurations. When a fitment is used, the cam surface will be on the fitment rather than the container.

  • Patent number: 4896782
Abstract: A closure having an insert which acts as a barrier over a container neck lip to selectively shield the product being packaged. An elastic sealing member which can be in the form of an O-ring is compressed between the insert and the container neck lip by a threaded cap of the container.

  • Patent number: 4884706
Abstract: A tamper indicating package including a container having integrally molded flexible retainer means for engaging and resisting the movement of a tamper indicating ring attached to a closure by frangible means so that separation of the ring of the closure indicates tampering.

  • Patent number: 4747500
Abstract: A tamper indicating closure for use with a container having a neck with an opening in which at least a portion of the closure is transparent. A destructible seal is bonded to the container neck providing a hermetic seal which is visible through the closure to indicate package integrity or tampering. In some embodiments, a transparent insert member is provided through which the seal element is visible, and after removal of the seal element, the insert member serves to reseal the closure to the container neck. In some embodiments, access is obtained to the container by unthreading and removing the closure from the container neck and puncturing the destructible seal element. In other embodiments, the seal element is bonded to the flat closure top or the insert so that the seal element is fractured upon initial opening movement of the closure to remove it from the container neck.

  • Patent number: 4747499
Abstract: A tamper indicating package incorporates a closure, at least a portion of which is transparent, and a seal which is bonded to the container so that the seal is visible through the closure. In some embodiments the closure is fastened also to the seal so that any movement between the closure and container results in fracture of the seal indicating tampering.

  • Patent number: 4149646
Abstract: Child-resistant locking means for a container having a threaded neck and a closure therefor. The closure has an inner threaded skirt and an outer more flexible skirt on the lower margin of which there is at least one axially extending, depending lug. The container has an abutment near, but spaced radially from, the base of the neck. The abutment has a face that lies in a radial plane of the container and an outer surface that extends inwardly from the outer edge of the abutment face angularly across the normal circular path of the closure lug. When the closure is turned onto the container neck, the lug (1) engages the outer surface of the lug and is flexed outwardly thereby, (2) snaps inwardly after it is turned beyond the abutment and (3) engages the radial face of the abutment when the closure is turned in a retrograde direction. In order to remove the closure, the outer skirt and the tab manually are squeezed inwardly so as to pass the abutment.

  • Patent number: 3993209
Abstract: A child-resistant cap and neck finish for a container. The cap has a disc-like top and a depending skirt. The cap skirt and container neck have mating threads, which may be single or multi-start. The cap skirt has a lower, generally annular, or slightly oval locking collar that is connected to the threaded skirt only by flexible webs. The cap skirt and collar are unitary. The collar and the container neck have cooperating child-resistant means which are disengaged by squeezing the collar radially inwardly from opposite sides to bulge it outwardly in the direction normal to the direction of squeezing. The child-resistant elements on the collar are thereby moved out of engagement with those on the container neck and the cap may be turned in a retrograde direction.

  • Patent number: 3989152
Abstract: Child-resistant locking means for a twist-action cap for a container. The locking means has two cooperating parts. There is an abutment on the container near, but spaced radially from, the container neck and a tab on the cap which engages the abutment and prevents retrograde rotation of the cap. The tab is flexed inwardly in order to be moved past the abutment both when the cap is screwed onto the container neck and when it is desired to remove the cap from the container neck.

  • Patent number: 3967745
Abstract: A child-resistant closure for a liquid container having a threaded neck. The closure comprises an inverted cup-shaped cap which has a shirt and on the inner side of its skirt has a thread that mates with the neck thread. The child-resistant means consists of an outwardly extending ring attached to the end of the skirt by frangible webs. The ring has a gap that is defined by an abutment at one end and a stop at the other end. A tab which permanently is connected to the cap skirt lies in the gap. The cap, ring and tab are unitary and are turned onto the neck to liquid sealing position at which time the ring engages a shoulder formed on the container at or near the base of the neck. The ring is then affixed to the shoulder. The container is opened by flexing the tab upwardly above the level of the abutment on the ring and rotating the cap and tab in a retrograde direction relative to the ring which breaks the frangible webs.
