  • Patent number: 7685878
Abstract: Two transducers to be rotated around a circumferential location on a cylindrical body for structural testing of the body are carried on a mounting and drive apparatus including a magnetic attachment which can be manually brought up to a pipe from one side only for fixed connection to the pipe on that side at a position axially spaced from a weld. A collar shaped support for the pair of transducers is formed of a row of separate segments which wrap around the pipe from the one side and is rotated around the axis of the pipe to carry the transducer around the circumferential weld. The segments carry rollers to roll on the surface and are held against the pipe by magnets. The transducers are carried on the support in fixed angular position to track their position but in a manner which allows slight axial or radial movement relative to the pipe.

  • Patent number: 7525306
Abstract: A magnetic encoder for detecting for example movement of a continuous pipe, wire line, pipe joints, rod, etc. into a well includes a wheel in the contaminated environment of the well with a permanent magnet mounted on the wheel such that the magnet moves past a sensing location each time the wheel rotates to provide a count representative of the rotation of the wheel and thus if the forwarding distance of the tubing. A sensor responsive to presence of a field generated by the presence of the magnet is mounted in a cylinder defining a separate environment for the sensor inside the cylinder with a stainless steel end dividing wall separating the wheel from the sensor with a ferro-magnetic pin extending through the dividing wall such that the presence of the magnet at the sensing location causes actuation of the sensor.

  • Publication number: 20080261042
Abstract: A composite reinforcing bar is formed by providing a reinforcing material supply of fiber strands rovings; a resin supply bath, and a puller for pulling the resin-impregnated reinforcing material through the resin bath. The reinforcing fibers include a series of inner rovings longitudinal to the bar with a first and a second helical wrappings of at least one roving wrapped around the inner rovings in opposed directions of wrapping. The resin is permeated through both the inner rovings and through the wrapped rovings to the outer surface where the inner rovings having parts thereof between the first and second wrapped rovings exposed and bulged outwardly by tension applied by the wrappings during curing with the bulged parts defining components of the outer surface portion of the bar which are thus rough and exposed for engaging a material to be reinforced so as to transfer longitudinal loads between the material to be reinforced and the inner rovings.

  • Publication number: 20080028703
Abstract: A wood mat has a first layer of timbers extending parallel to one another in a longitudinal direction and a second layer timbers spanning across the first timbers parallel to one another and transversely to the first timbers such that each second timber intersects a plurality of the first timbers at respective intersecting locations of the mat; and a plurality of pressed fasteners mounted at selected intersecting locations through drilled holes formed by either a rivet fastener or a press fit fastener having opposed ends compressively joining the timbers therebetween.

  • Publication number: 20060247868
Abstract: An apparatus for the detection of defects utilizing non-destructive flux leakage techniques in ferrous materials includes rare earth magnets which are supported at an angle in the order of 45 degrees with the surface of the test specimen to induce a magnetic field within the material. The angled arrangement draws the field into the specimen over a larger surface area, reducing reluctance and ensuring that the field does not shallow within the material. The device provides real-time, three dimensional, visual feedback to the user and includes built-in means for data storage and retrieval without the need for an external computer interface. A distance sensor is used to correct the signal from the sensor array for distance from the surface. A position analyzing device utilizes the magnetic field to determine the position of the apparatus along the surface of the test material, increasing the accuracy in position measurement during testing.

  • Patent number: 6800164
Abstract: A composite reinforcing rod is formed by providing a reinforcing material supply of fiber strands rovings; a resin supply bath, and a puller for pulling the resin-impregnated reinforcing material through the resin bath. A hot compression (or autoclave) apparatus includes two half autoclave molds, which can be arranged in a reciprocating die autoclave or a tractor die autoclave process. A mandrel or plastics tubing core may be used to form a hollow shape of the composite materials to get an external threaded composite tubing. The two autoclave molds have an internal thread and clamp to form the threaded section in the outer of the resin-impregnated reinforcing material. The molds press and squeeze the resin out of the impregnated fibers to the mold internal surfaces, and push the outer fibers longitudinal roving fibers toward the crest of the thread of the molds so that the thread when formed is reinforced by fibers extending into the core of the rod.
