  • Publication number: 20190104305
Abstract: Several systems and methods for intra-prediction estimation of video pictures are disclosed. In an embodiment, the method includes accessing four ‘N×N’ pixel blocks comprising luma-related pixels. The four ‘N×N’ pixel blocks collectively configure a ‘2N×2N’ pixel block. A first pre-determined number of candidate luma intra-prediction modes is accessed for each of the four ‘N×N’ pixel blocks. A presence of one or more luma intra-prediction modes that are common among the candidate luma intra-prediction modes of at least two of the four ‘N×N’ pixel blocks is identified. The method further includes performing, based on the identification, one of (1) selecting a principal luma intra-prediction mode for the ‘2N×2N’ pixel block and (2) limiting a partitioning size to a ‘N×N’ pixel block size for a portion of the video picture corresponding to the ‘2N×2N’ pixel block.

  • Publication number: 20180184130
Abstract: A method is provided that includes receiving pictures of a video sequence in a video encoder, and encoding the pictures to generate a compressed video bit stream that is transmitted to a video decoder in real-time, wherein encoding the pictures includes selecting a picture to be encoded as a delayed duplicate intra-predicted picture (DDI), wherein the picture would otherwise be encoded as an inter-predicted picture (P-picture), encoding the picture as an intra-predicted picture (I-picture) to generate the DDI, wherein the I-picture is reconstructed and stored for use as a reference picture for a decoder refresh picture, transmitting the DDI to the video decoder in non-real time, selecting a subsequent picture to be encoded as the decoder refresh picture, and encoding the subsequent picture in the compressed bit stream as the decoder refresh picture, wherein the subsequent P-picture is encoded as a P-picture predicted using the reference picture.

  • Publication number: 20160165230
Abstract: Checksum computation for video coding is provided that breaks the dependency between the color components of a picture in the prior art. More specifically, rather than computing a single checksum for a picture as in the prior art, a separate checksum is computed for each color component. Computing a separate checksum for each color component enables parallel computation of the component checksums. Methods are provided for computing three separate checksums after a picture is decoded. Methods are also provided for computing three separate checksums on a largest coding unit basis, thus allowing the checksums for a picture to be computed as the picture is being decoded.

  • Publication number: 20130089136
Abstract: A method includes determining whether spatial intra prediction of pixels of a macroblock of a video frame is to be performed at a macroblock level or a sub-macroblock level. The method also includes suppressing a horizontal mode or a vertical mode of spatial intra prediction of pixels of the macroblock at the macroblock level or the sub-macroblock level based on the determination when spatial intra prediction of pixels of the immediate previous macroblock is at the sub-macroblock level. When the spatial intra prediction of the pixels of the macroblock is at the macroblock level, the horizontal mode or the vertical mode is suppressed for the entire macroblock. When the spatial intra prediction of the pixels of the macroblock is at the sub-macroblock level, the horizontal mode or the vertical mode is suppressed for a corresponding first row or a first column of blocks of pixels of the macroblock.
