The present invention incorporates user-definable balancing control rules, balancing control levels and reconciliation algorithms for facilitating item processing. The present invention includes a data store (14) stored in memory accessible by a capture module (34), a configuration module (38), a balancing module (40), an administration module (46), a publishing module (42) and portal module (48) which provides parallel access to the data store (14) during item processing.

Abstract: A configurable image quality analysis system for use at a point of presentment includes an input receptive of an item image of a physical item at least partially embodying a financial transaction. An image quality module is adapted to perform a plurality of image quality tests on the item image according to a plurality of configurable test parameters. An edit module is adapted to perform at least one edit on images of unacceptable quality as defined by the image quality module according to a plurality of configurable edit parameters. An output is adapted to report results of the tests of the image quality module and an edited image from the edit module.

Abstract: A financial transaction processing system for use at a point of presentment includes an input receptive of an image of a physical item at least partially embodying a financial transaction, wherein the image contains a visual record of an amount of monetary value. An image recognition module is adapted to extract the amount of monetary value recorded in the image and recognize the amount using character recognition. A validation module is adapted to determine whether the transaction is valid based on a validation characteristic of an item. A balancing module is adapted to determine whether the transaction is balanced based on the amount of monetary value. An output is adapted to transmit information indicating whether the transaction is at least one of balanced and valid.
