Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a remote characterization of optical components in multi-span fiber links, the characterization based on a parametric model of optical components, such as a machine learning model. The present disclosure also relates to the use of the presently disclosed model for optimization of a link, based on an arbitrary optimization strategy related to the spectral power profile and the quality of service of the link.
