  • Publication number: 20090062163
Abstract: A gear oil composition is provided. The composition comprises an isomerized base oil having consecutive numbers of carbon atoms, less than 0.05 wt. % aromatics, a viscosity index between 150 and 170, Oxidator BN of 15 to 50 hours; and 0.001 to 30 wt % at least an additive selected from traction reducers, dispersants, viscosity modifiers, pour point depressants, antifoaming agents, antioxidants, rust inhibitors, metal passivators, extreme pressure agents, friction modifiers, and mixtures thereof. In one embodiment, composition displays a pressure viscosity coefficient of greater than 9.5 GPa?1 at 140° C. and a Timken OK load per D2782 (E2006) of at least 50 lbs.

  • Publication number: 20090036546
Abstract: A medicinal white oil composition is prepared from an isomerized base oil. The isomerized base oil is filtered through a filter bed containing an acid activated clay having a surface area of at least 100 m2/g, for the base oil to be in compliant with at least one of European Pharmacopeia 3rd Edition, US Pharmacopeia 23rd edition (USP), FDA 21 CFR 172.878 and FDA 21 CFR 178.3620(a) for direct food contact, and FDA 21 CFR 178.3570 (USDA H-1). The medicinal white oil in one embodiment has a UV absorbance at 260 to 350 nm of less than 0.1.

  • Publication number: 20080073248
Abstract: A heat transfer oil, comprising a base oil made from a waxy feed, wherein the base oil has a low pour point, low aromatics, and defined cycloparaffin composition. The heat transfer oil has high AIT and VI, and is an ISO viscosity grade. A process to prepare heat transfer oil, comprising: hydroisomerization of wax feed to make fraction(s) of base oil having low pour point, defined cycloparaffin composition, and high ratio of monocycloparaffins to multicycloparaffins; and blending the fractions with <0.2 wt % antifoam agent. A method to use heat transfer oil, comprising selecting heat transfer oil having high AIT and VI that is made with base oil having defined cycloparaffin composition, providing the heat transfer oil to mechanical system, and transferring heat from heat source to heat sink. Also, heat transfer oil comprising isomerized Fischer-Tropsch derived base oil with a low traction coefficient, and an antifoam agent.
