Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and computer program product for using gathered system activity statistics to determine when to schedule a procedure. Activity information is gathered in a computer readable storage medium indicating activity in a computer system during time slots for recurring time periods, wherein each time period includes a plurality of time slots. A high activity value is determined comprising an activity amount of a slot having a maximum amount of activity among the slots for the time periods and a low activity value is determined comprising an activity amount of a slot having a minimum amount of activity among the slots for the time periods. A threshold point is determined as a function of the high activity, the low activity, and a threshold percent comprising a percentage value. A determination is made as to whether there is at least one lull window having a plurality of consecutive time slots each having an activity value lower than the threshold point.

This design only dynamically builds a web page when the page is requested for viewing. Once built, the page is retained so that the next time it is requested, if the information it contains has not changed, the page can be served without having to be rebuilt. If the information has changed, the design will not update the page until the page has been requested. In addition, the page is only built in the human language requested.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for automatically and transparently mapping tape drives within tape libraries to IP addresses. In one embodiment, the tape library includes, a DHCP server, a LAN to serial switch, and a library manager configured with the necessary modules to map the tape library devices to the proper IP addresses. The entire process may be transparent to users. The result is that the tape library is configured with the proper IP addressing without costly, time-consuming, and error-prone manual intervention. The tape library can be configured more quickly with accurate IP addressing and is able to operate efficiently and properly.

Abstract: A system and method for efficiently and accurately detecting errors in a network is provided. Devices coupled to a network are configured to determine their local network status and transmit their local network status to a centralized location. The centralized location is configured to receive the local network status from each device and provide network status for the entire network. The centralized location is also configured to analyze the collective network status information and report any network errors. The centralized location is further configured to present the information in a format that allows a user of the network to quickly determine the configuration and status of the network (such as a computer generated graphical representation of the network).

Abstract: In a data storage subsystem a virtual removable media server (VRMS) handles host audit requests, whether directed to a physical volume or a virtual volume physically stored in cache or in a removable physical media item. The subsystem includes a storage interface between the host and data storage facilities including a cache and a physical media library. To the host, the storage interface emulates a virtual library including a plurality of virtual media items, each containing a logical volume of data. The library may also maintain physical media items each storing one logical volume, as in a traditional library. To verify presence of a specified logical volume of the virtual library, the host sends an audit request. Responsively, the subsystem cross-references the specified logical volume in a first list to identify physical locations of underlying data. This physical location may be an address in the cache and/or a physical volume corresponding to a physical media item in the library.
