Patent number: 9481998Abstract: The present application is directed toward fire-rated wall construction components and wall systems for use in building construction. Embodiments can include tracks for holding studs which incorporate various geometries capable of receiving fire-retardant material, flat straps for use between tracks and fluted wall components, fire sponges for use in fluted wall components, and tracks with protruding grooves or other structures which prevent unwanted air movement between a wallboard component and the track.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 2015Date of Patent: November 1, 2016Assignee: California Expanded Metal Products CompanyInventors: Donald A. Pilz, Raymond E. Poliquin, Fernando Hernandez Sesma

Publication number: 20160296775Abstract: Fire block devices for application to a wall component. The fire block device can be a strip that includes a fire-resistant material strip comprised of a material that expands in response to sufficient heat to create a fire-resistant barrier. An optional foam strip comprised of a foam material can be placed side-by-side with the fire-resistant material strip. A cover layer covers the fire-resistant material strip and the optional foam strip, if present. The cover layer includes opposing side portions positioned on opposing sides of the fire-resistant material strip and foam strip, if present. The cover layer is comprised of a tape having an adhesive on an underneath surface thereof such that adhesive on the side portions are capable of securing the fire block strip to a wall component. The fire block strip can be applied to a header track, footer track or wall stud, among other possible components.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 17, 2016Publication date: October 13, 2016Inventors: Donald A. Pilz, Raymond E. Poliquin

Patent number: 9458628Abstract: A fire-rated angle piece and wall assemblies or other assemblies that incorporate the fire-rated angle piece, in which the angle piece can include an intumescent or other fire-resistant material strip. The angle can be attached adjacent to a corner of a framing member, such as metal tracks, headers, header tracks, sill plates, bottom tracks, metal studs, wood studs or wall partitions, and placed between the framing member and a wall board member at a perimeter of a wall assembly to create a fire block arrangement. A fire spray material can be applied over a portion of the angle piece.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 2015Date of Patent: October 4, 2016Assignee: California Expanded Metal Products CompanyInventors: Don A. Pilz, Raymond E. Poliquin, Thomas Porter

Publication number: 20160265219Abstract: A fire-rated receiver channel includes at least one intumescent or other fire-resistant material strip. The receiver channel can nest with a framing member, such as metal tracks, headers, header tracks, sill plates, bottom tracks, metal studs, wood studs or wall partitions, and placed at a perimeter of a wall assembly to create a fire block arrangement. In other arrangements, a track assembly includes two nested tracks, an inner track and outer track. The assembly is designed so that the outside width of the outer track is equal to or less than the outside width of the inner track to present a substantially flush external surface for attachment of exterior sheathing elements when the assembly is used in an external wall.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 18, 2016Publication date: September 15, 2016Inventors: Donald A. Pilz, Raymond E. Poliquin, Fernando Hernandez Sesma

Patent number: 9371644Abstract: Fire block devices for application to a wall component. The fire-block device can be a wall component that includes a fire-resistant material strip that expands in response to sufficient heat to create a fire-resistant barrier. In some applications, the fire-block wall component is positioned to extend lengthwise along and across a gap between wallboard members. The fire-block wall component may have a U-shaped central portion and a pair of side portions extending in opposite directions from the central portion. The fire-resistant material may be positioned on the central portion of the fire-block device. The central portion may be positioned within the gap such that the fire-resistant material expands in response to sufficient heat to create a fire-resistant barrier.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2015Date of Patent: June 21, 2016Assignee: California Expanded Metal Products CompanyInventors: Donald A. Publication number: 20160158624Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for administering a hole-in-one contest. Upon receiving payment, an identification code is transmitted to the golfer, and a video recording is made of the following events: 1) the player writing the identification code on the ball, 2) the player hitting the ball toward the green, 3) the ball's flight path toward the green, 4) retrieval of the ball from the cup, and 5) a close-up view of the ball showing the same identifying code that was placed on the ball earlier. The video recording is transmitted to a server where it is authenticated and verified. If the hole-in-one is verified, the player is awarded a prize. The system includes a player device, a video recording device (which may be integrated with the player device), a transmitter unit, a receiver unit, and a server.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 5, 2014Publication date: June 9, 2016Applicant: 10&8Inventors: Tom Porter, Dallas Mix, Robert Forsberg, Raymond E.
