  • Patent number: 4938456
Abstract: A metallurgical cooling panel comprising an outer plate member providing a pari of generally flat cold face surface portions of tangertial construction for plug welding attachment to the peaks of a corrugated inner plate member, an inner plate member being formed to provide a series of laterally spaced corrugations defining peaks and grooves, said peaks and grooves defining elongated cooling medium therethrough, and said peaks being in contact with the confronting cold face surface portions of said inner plate member, a plurality of retention elements secured to the exposed surface of the hot face of the panel, said retention elements extending beyond the exterior apices of the inner plate corrugations, and plug welds securing said contacting surfaces together to provide a finished metallurgical cooling panel.

  • Patent number: 4458351
Abstract: A membrane cooling system for a metallurgical furnace including a single or series of individual panel sections, each section including a plurality of closely spaced cooling tubes disposed in laterally spaced relation, the tubes being arcuate and/or linear in a lengthwise direction and oriented circumferentially to define exposed inner furnace wall surfaces, spacer bar elements are disposed centrally between and extend between adjacent of the tubes to provide a trough-like recess therebetween, weldments join the spacer bar elements to the cooling tubes to form a continuous, undulating membrane surface, and retention elements are made integral with the membrane surface and extend from the hot face thereby to provide, by refractory or slag build-up, a protective and heat insulation barrier layer of generally uniform thickness to protect the panel sections and to reduce energy losses to the cooling system.

  • Patent number: 3938789
Abstract: A panel for use in metallurgical type furnaces comprising a pair of outwardly disposed metal plate members spaced apart and joined together at their edges to provide a fluid transmitting passageway with at least one of the plate members including laterally spaced corrugations defining parallel channels in the passageway for directing fluid flow longitudinally of the panel. Manifold members are disposed at the opposed ends of the plate members and communicate therewith with one of the plate members terminating interiorly of at least one of the manifold members and in laterally off-set relation to the other plate member for uniformly controlling fluid flow for heat transfer exteriorly of the panel.
