  • Patent number: 7997037
Abstract: An integrated window sash includes a sash frame having a base between first and second sheet supporting surfaces and first and second sheets each having a first surface and an opposite second surface. The marginal edge portions of the first surface of the first sheet are secured to the first supporting surface, and marginal edge portions of the first surface of the second sheet are secured to the second supporting surface. The first surface of the second sheet faces and is spaced from the second surface of the first sheet to provide a compartment therebetween. A desiccating medium carried in a groove, or on the base communicates with the compartment, and the base and the desiccating medium define an interior opening in the sash frame, wherein the first sheet is sized to pass through the interior opening to the first sheet supporting surface without contacting the desiccating medium.

  • Publication number: 20100031591
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a composite spacer bar for use in glazing units. The spacer bar includes a low-thermally conductive inner component and a low-thermally conductive outer component that partially encases the inner component. The inner component has four walls of a predetermined thickness that define a chamber containing a low-thermally conductive material. The thickness of the outer component is substantially less than the thickness of the inner component. The outer component also includes a rear wall having an irregular profile and associated longitudinal edges, with the inner component configured to engage the longitudinal edges of the outer component. The longitudinal edges also include a portion that extends a predetermined distance into the top wall of the inner component. The composite spacer bar is also configured to receive a linear key member that is configured for insertion into the chamber so as to join ends of the spacer bar.

  • Publication number: 20080053007
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a connector with multiple barriers for moisture vapor and gas that provides a hermetically sealed joint in a spacer bar. The multiple barrier members include yielding feathers, yielding ribs, yielding feathered ribs, or interlaced yielding ribs and collars. The barrier members engage with the seal liner of respective portions of an associated spacer bar in corresponding engaging areas. A predetermined relationship between the fusing temperature of the barrier members and the fusing temperature of the seal liner establishes hermetic bonding resulting from a heating exposure of the corresponding engaging areas.

  • Patent number: 5928467
Abstract: Magnetic forces are applied to a side of a spacer frame mounted on a glass sheet to maintain the side of the spacer frame in alignment i.e. the plane containing base of the spacer frame perpendicular to the plane containing the surface of the glass to which the spacer frame is adhered. Thereafter a glass sheet is mounted on the other surface of the spacer frame. The sheets are adhered to the spacer frame by a sealant layer. After the sheets are assembled, the sheets are urged toward one another to flow the sealant to seal the space between the sheets.

  • Patent number: 5813191
Abstract: A spacer stock has a pair of outer legs joined by a base to provide the spacer stock with a generally U-shaped cross section. The outer legs are formed e.g. each leg has a pair of members having a hairpin cross section to reduce the degree of torsional twist of the spacer stock and/or spacer frame with the legs preferably only connected by the base having only one thermal conducting path e.g. through the base from one leg to the other leg. The spacer stock may be shaped or sections of spacer stock joined to provide a spacer frame. The spacer frame may be used to fabricate a multi-sheet glazing unit e.g. by securing a sheet to each of the outer legs with moisture impervious adhesive or sealant.
