  • Patent number: 5864986
Abstract: A check mechanism is provided to regulate door speed of a roller supported sliding door as the door is manually opened or closed. The mechanism is attached to a door hanger and uses a rocker arm, which slides along a control track. The control track has elevated or offset control regions which cause the rocker arm to apply force to a brake arm through an adjustable spring. The brake arm pivots to apply braking force through a brake pad to a door roller. The control track may contain regions of no control or of lesser control to allow the door to slide freely between opening or closing regions of control.

  • Patent number: 5857290
Abstract: A check mechanism is provided to regulate door speed of a roller supported sliding door as the door is manually opened or closed. The check mechanism includes an idler arm assembly attached to a door hanger with an idler roller attached to the idler arm assembly. The check mechanism further includes a pivotable spring biased lever arm having two inclined ramp sections. As the door slides, the idler roller contacts the lever arm. The inclination of the ramp causes an increasing retardation force to be applied to the idler roller, thereby retarding the speed of the door. After the idler roller passes a point of maximum retarding force, the door becomes free wheeling until a second idler roller contacts the lever arm of a second checking mechanism which in turn slows the speed of the door.

  • Patent number: 4414703
Abstract: A door closer and holder has cylinders with pistons therein responsive to the relative swinging motion between a door panel and a door frame. A spring is loaded by door opening and acts against one piston to effect door closing. Various hydraulic passages opening into the cylinders have valves therein to control the door panel opening and closing speed or speeds. One of the valves, electrically operated, allows the door panel to close from a hold-open position.

  • Patent number: 4102005
Abstract: A door closer and a connector are joined to a door panel and a door frame. The connector includes an arm and a restraining device such as a track or a link. The arm has an arm base fast on a shaft projecting from the closer for rotation about a first axis and has an arm extension at one end connected to the restraining device and at the other end pivoted to the arm base for rotation relative thereto about a second axis parallel to and spaced from the first axis. A shoulder on the arm base and an abutment on the arm extension come into contact in one position of relative rotation of the arm base and the arm extension. If desired, there may also be a locking device engaging both the arm base and the arm extension and precluding relative rotation therebetween about the second axis. Further, there may be a damping device such as a friction brake for partially inhibiting relative rotation about the second axis.

  • Patent number: 4040144
Abstract: A typical door closer has a cylinder in which a piston reciprocates to compress a spring. An assistor for such a closer has a cylindrical shell fastened to one end of and continuing the cylinder. The shell has a barrier wall at one end adjacent the cylinder, a partition wall dividing the shell into a booser compartment and a main compartment, and a head wall at the other end. Air under regulated pressure is supplied to the main compartment, wherein the air presses a main plunger tube, extending through the partition wall, against a booster plunger having a rod extending through the barrier wall and abutting the piston. A port in the plunger tube receives air from the main compartment through the tube. In some plunger tube positions the port is blocked by the partition wall and in other plunger tube positions opens into the first compartment. A check valve when open allows air flow from the booster compartment to the main compartment.

  • Patent number: 4040143
Abstract: A releasable door hold-open device or assembly is mounted on the header over a door panel. The assembly has a track channel with a top web and depending flanges. A door panel connector arm has a traveller movable in the track channel. A solenoid operates a detent in the track channel near the hinge end of the traveller path. A conductor channel is fastened to the top web and communicates with the track channel through an opening. A connector block releasably adjoins the track channel and the conductor channel at the hinge end thereof. A smoke detector underlies the connector channel at the other end of the track channel. Conductors from outside extend through the connector block, through connecting plugs in the block and track channel and to the solenoid and through the conductor channel to the smoke detector.
