  • Patent number: 5525099
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for linearly displacing a rotatable spindle relative to an object. The apparatus includes a support that is connectable to the spindle such that translation of the spindle relative to the support in a first direction is restrained, a rotatable shaft which is connected to the support such that translation of the shaft relative to the support in the first direction is restrained, and a rotational drive system rotatably connected to the shaft and rotatably connectable to the spindle, to transmit rotational drive from the spindle to the shaft. The apparatus also includes a contact piece eccentrically mounted to the shaft, wherein the contact piece has a contact surface thereon for contact with the object. Rotation of the shaft varies a distance, measured in the first direction, between the support and a portion of the contact surface contacting the object, such that the spindle is linearly displaceable relative to the object.

  • Patent number: 5146807
Abstract: A bench type router/shaper which includes (i) a spindle drive pack which incorporates the motor and the spindle into a unitary package so as to establish and maintain a spacial relationship between the motor and the spindle, (ii) a semi-elastic drive belt encompassing the spindle and drive shaft which has a modulus of elasticity effective for providing effective power transmission while permitting removal and replacement of the drive belt without repositioning of the spindle and/or the drive shaft, (iii) a spindle adjustment mechanism for repositioning the longitudinal position of the spindle and thereby the depth of the cutter which includes a rotatable bell crank, a spindle in communication with the first extremity of the bell crank for linear movement of the spindle based upon rotational movement of the bell crank, and a rotatable handle in communication with the second extremity of the bell crank for producing rotation of the bell crank based upon rotation of the handle and (iv) a protective shield over t

  • Patent number: 4982509
Abstract: Disclosed is a measurement system having multiple display orientations. The measurement system comprises a reader head having a reader element, and a display module. The reader element is configured for lateral movement with respect to a calibrated reference member for making a measurement relative to a reference position on the calibrated reference member. The display module is for displaying a measurement and includes coupling hardware for connecting the display module to the reader head so that the display module can be read horizontally independent of whether the reader head is oriented horizontally, vertically, or in some other direction.

  • Patent number: 4974332
Abstract: Disclosed is a measurement system having reader element standoff. The system comprises a calibrated reference member for use with a reader head in making a measurement. The system also includes a reader head comprising a reader element configured to move laterally with respect to the calibrated reference member for making the measurement relative to a reference position on the calibrated reference member. Also, standoff structure is provided for establishing a variable standoff distance between the reader element and the calibrated reference member while substantially invariably maintaining a fixed lateral position of the reader element within the reader head.

  • Patent number: 4961269
Abstract: Disclosed is a measurement system for providing a direct reading of a position on either side of a reference position. The system comprises a reader head including a reader element configured to move laterally with respect to a calibrated reference member for making a measurement relative to a reference position. The measurement system also includes mode display apparatus for increasing or decreasing the measurement which is displayed as the reader element moves away from or toward a selected side of the reference position.

  • Patent number: 4873770
Abstract: Disclosed is a capacitive measurement system. The system comprises structure for generating a plurality of waveforms, a calibrated reference member for use with a reader head in making a measurement, and a reader element configured for lateral movement with respect to the calibrated reference member. The calibrated reference member comprises one element of a capacitor. The reader element comprises a plurality of reader regions comprising the other element of the capacitor. The reader element also includes structure for receiving two signals resulting from coupling of the two capacitor elements. The system functions to detect a phase shift level between the two signals and to determine magnitude of lateral movement in a particular direction from the magnitude of the phase shift.

  • Patent number: 4360887
Abstract: Skin categorizing apparatus comprises a conveyor on which skins are categorized by automatic area scanning and thickness measuring means generating data for transmission to a remote location for control and data processing equipment. Displays at the conveyor location are driven by the control equipment to show data first transmitted thereto. The area and thickness means is capable of dealing with a single skin or two sides of split skins simultaneously. Thus two sets of displays are shown one at each side of the conveyor. Data entry means serves for a skin quality input and data generation with an associated display. The control equipment includes a supervisor's display unit and two printers one for logging work progress and the other for printing out batch labels or advices when a batch is complete for a particular order.

  • Patent number: 4199255
Abstract: Apparatus for grading hides, skins, pelts and the like according to thickness and quality includes means, for example a mechanical/electrical transducer, for providing a signal representative of thickness of a selected skin, means, for example manually operated push-buttons, for providing a signal representative of the quality of the skin and means responsive to both these signals for providing a signal representative of a product category for the skin. The product category signal may serve for sorting the skins into batches and preferably controls the application of an area signal for each selected skin in a category to summation means therefor enable control and/or display of total batch area. The skins may pass through the apparatus on an endless conveyor above which are disposed photoelectric scanning means to detect instantaneously the width of each passing skin to provide the area signal and a thickness transducer to bear against the skin to provide the thickness signal.

  • Patent number: 4132404
Abstract: A leg stretching exercise device is provided which has two platforms, each adapted to support a foot of an exerciser. Each platform is provided with ball casters which provide support and allow free movement in a mutual plane. The platforms are attached so they may be placed in touching relationship and moved apart a predetermined distance by the exerciser. A rope connects a single point on each platform. The connecting rope defines a loop which passes through eyelets, secured to each platform. An adjustable connection is provided for varying the size of the loop as desired.
