  • Patent number: 8761177
Abstract: A telecommunications system having a format converter provides bi-directional communications between TDM signals on one side and ATM signals on the other. An ATM aggregate receives and transmits ATM signals, and a TDM interface receives and transmits TDM signals. The format converter has an ATM bus and a TDM bus connected to their respective interfaces, and service-specific adapters are connected between the ATM bus and the TDM bus.

  • Publication number: 20060230395
Abstract: A method and system for updating an OS of an embedded device. The embedded device provides its current OS version information to a mobile operation network via a SMS message. The embedded device can provide its current OS version information to a mobile operation network in response to a request from a mobile operator network that has implemented the SyncML specifications promulgated by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA). The mobile operator network interacts with the datacenter to provide the embedded device's current OS version and get the address of the image update. The mobile operator service sends the address to the embedded device via another SMS message. The embedded device downloads the image update using the RF link via a global packet radio service (GPRS) connection.

  • Patent number: 5127283
Abstract: A railway car brake mechanism is comprised of a hand wheel on a shaft and a housing with a rotatable gear wheel and square chain winding disposed within. A ratchet wheel rotatable with the hand wheel shaft and a freely rotatable pinion which engages the gear wheel is also provided. The rotatable pinion has a flange with a disengageable driving connection with the gear wheel and a disengageable connection between flange and ratchet wheel. The main gear wheel and chain winding drum comprise a main gear wheel assembly. The assembly is attached by a chain end link through an interconnection of the main gear wheel and outwardly extending section of the chain winding drum. To prevent kinking or slippage of the chain, a spiral groove is formed in the square chain drum. The groove enables the chain to be wound within the drum with alternate links seated on a concave surface and intermediate links, which rest on the outer surface of the drum, to be at right angles to the aforementioned alternate links.

  • Patent number: 3979969
Abstract: Kinetic energy incident to the trip release and consequent rapid spinning and unwinding of rotating members in a chain operated railway car hand brake mechanism is substantially dissipated by energy absorbing means which frictionally engage the rapidly rotating members. The frictional engagement slows down the rotation of the members thus decreasing the shock to the members as they are rapidly stopped when the mechanism reaches full release. The rotation stoppage of the members is necessary to prevent the mechanism from winding in the wrong direction and thereby damaging the hand brake mechanism and brake components at opposite ends of the chain.
