Patent number: 9055611Abstract: A Wi-Fi Direct Group Owner stores network parameters needed for proper operation of a peer-to-peer network. These include the network name and identifier, the power save schedule, the security settings, MAC address of all of the group members, etc. To reduce the need for a single Group Owner, this information is distributed. As each new device is added to the network, all of these parameters are passed via IEEE 802.11 data packets from the device acting as the Group Owner to the new peer device. This way, the new peer device has all of the information about the group at the time that it joins. Any device in the Resilient Peer Network can temporarily take on the role of a traditional Wi-Fi Direct Group Owner (admission control). Selection of which peer will act as a Group Owner will depend on a user action or network event.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2013Date of Patent: June 9, 2015Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Roman Baker, Raymond R. Hayes

Patent number: 8576793Abstract: A wireless interface circuit transceives packetized data between a host module and a first external device using a frequency spectrum, wherein the packetized data is formatted in accordance with a first wireless communication protocol and wherein the packetized data includes an indication that the first external device is configured to use at least a portion of the frequency spectrum for communication via a second wireless communication protocol. A coexistence management module generates a wireless interface schedule that includes a least one contention free period reserved for communication via the second wireless communication protocol, and generates schedule data, based on the wireless interface schedule, for transmission to a plurality of external devices including the first external device.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 2011Date of Patent: November 5, 2013Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Mahesh Iyer, Raymond R. Patent number: 8041827Abstract: A method for interoperability of a network interface protocol with an Internet interface protocol begins by receiving a scan channel request of a plurality of channels that are in accordance with the network interface protocol. The method then continues by determining whether an Internet packet is being received via one of the plurality of channels when the channel scan request is received (i.e., is a higher layer protocol supporting a current transmission). If so, the method continues by scanning at least one channel of the plurality of channels, but does not scan all of the plurality of channels at one time. The method continues after the scanning by tuning to the channel supporting the higher layer protocol communication to transmit at least one outbound Internet packet. The method then continues by scanning at least another channel of the plurality of channels.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2009Date of Patent: October 18, 2011Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: William E. Stafford, Raymond R. Hayes

Patent number: 5170464Abstract: A system and method suitable for use with a rule-based expert system maintains a history of execution states through which the expert system progresses during execution. A user can select a previous execution state for roll back, and later states maintained in the history are undone in reverse order until the selected state is reached. If desired, a user can define a breakpoint to which the system is to be rolled back. The corresponding executable state is determined from a retained history of all potential breakpoints, and the system is then rolled back to such corresponding executable state.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1991Date of Patent: December 8, 1992Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Raymond R. Hayes, Lo Hsieh

Patent number: 5167012Abstract: A method for use with a rule-based expert system provides a technique for determining a recent previous consistent state of execution of the expert system after a change is made to a rule or variable. Several queues contain state history information of an inference engine. When changes are made to a rule or variable, these history queues are examined to determine a recent consistent state. If the current state is inconsistent due to the change, the user can be informed that the system is now in an inconsistent state.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1991Date of Patent: November 24, 1992Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Raymond R. Patent number: 5140671Abstract: A debugger suitable for use with rule-based expert systems allows a user to set breakpoints defined by selected conditions and events which can occur during execution of the expert system. An inference engine used to execute the expert system executes a procedure call to the debugger whenever selected inferencing activities are performed. The debugger determines whether the inference engine should be halted by comparing current conditions within the expert system with predefined breakpoints. When a breakpoint is reached, a user is allowed to examine and change various aspects of the expert system and its course of execution. Control is then returned to the inference engine for further execution.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1991Date of Patent: August 18, 1992Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Raymond R.
