  • Patent number: 4618068
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for shipping and safeguarding cargo utilizing a conventional bulk cargo container in combination with one or more unique knock down containers constructed for efficient and convenient stowage therewithin. The smaller containers permit cargo consigned to different destinations to be segregated and safeguarded throughout transit and to be shipped and handled as a unit over all common portions of the shipping route. Additionally the smaller containers can be handled individually by simple mobile or light capacity equipment and can also serve as indoor or outdoor weather tight, tamper-proof storage in areas controlled by individual users. Other features of the smaller containers include stackability and built-in provision lengthwise of the upper and lower lateral corners of channels receptive of lifting devices and useful in loading and unloading these containers relative to a larger container, or the like.

  • Patent number: 4548298
Abstract: The invention comprises two embodiments of a hydraulically powered rotor and screw elevator equipped with a fail-safe control system. In each embodiment a dual lead steep-pitched screw is embraced by a rotor supporting the cab. In one embodiment the rotor is driven and in the other the screw is driven. In each embodiment the driven component auto-rotates during downward cab travel and is hydraulically driven during upward cab travel by a motor-pump unit. This unit functions as a motor during upward cab travel and as a pump during downward cab travel to provide pressurized fluid to various system components including the hydraulic speed control components. Pressurized fluid is supplied in varying volumes by a plurality of pumps connected in parallel. Both the rotor and the screw are equipped with fail-safe brakes.

  • Patent number: 4438830
Abstract: A combined stairway and power lift installable as a unit between upper and lower levels and including a fluid-powered lifting platform propelled along the stairs over an underlying pressure sensing mat extending beyond the approaches to the stairs and operable to disable the power to the lift and lock the lift stationary whenever and so long as a weight or pressure remains on the mat. Extendable and retractable barriers crosswise on the transverse edges of the lift must be held positively in a barricading position while the lift is en route between levels. The power system includes devices automatically operable to accelerate and decelerate the lift smoothly and shocklessly between zero and full speed while approaching and departing from a floor level as well as safety equipment for safeguarding against travel of the lift under all unsafe contingencies.

  • Patent number: 4274296
Abstract: A self-centering, self-aligning, anti-friction power transmission mechanism comprising a rotor cooperable with a screw to convert rotary movement to linear movement and vice versa. The rotor has one or more convolutions of rollers having their axes arranged in a helical path of the same pitch as the screw thread with their inner ends positioned to have non-scuffing, non-slipping rolling line contact with the screw thread, a result obtained by off-setting each roller axis downwardly along the helix from the line of contact by a distance such that the line of contact and the rotor axis lie in a common plane parallel to the roller axis. The screw thread is preferably of the Acme type with a sidewall taper initially slightly less than the taper of the roller ends in contact therewith whereby, in use under load, the rollers cause cold flow and work hardening of the thread sidewall thereby substantially increasing the length of the line of contact between the rollers and the screw thread.

  • Patent number: 4223938
Abstract: A motor coach the major portion of the interior which comprises businessman's conference and sales promotion room occupying the rear end of the coach and much of its length and the remainder of which includes living facilities for the driver. The rear end of the coach comprises transparent panels one of which slides to provide an entrance. A protective device covers the exterior of these panels when the display room is not in use and shifts to a horizontal position at other times to provide an access for the entrance.
