  • Patent number: 5439452
Abstract: A closed-system, combination infusion and flush set which enables safe administration of both medicaments and flush solutions to a patient with great accuracy using conventional large volume parenteral bags. The administration set comprises a specially designed rotatable valve member for controlling fluid flow through the set and includes a stop post which positively blocks rotation of the valve member to a position that permits the flow of flush solution toward the patient.

  • Patent number: 5371909
Abstract: A readily bendable positioning aid, having a soft, spongy foam body for supporting an infant. Once formed into the desired shape, the support maintains its shape until reformed by the user. Disposed internally of the foam body is an elongated, bendable lead rod that weights the body sufficiently so that the support will remain in position about the infant and will effectively constrain movement of the infant.

  • Patent number: 4917804
Abstract: A set for the isolation of cryoprecipitate includes a hollow vessel with a closed first end, a second end and a longitudinal axis, and a nipple extending from and closing the second end, said nipple enclosing a volume of approximately 2 to 5 percent of the volume of the hollow vessel. In one embodiment, the vessel is formed of a semi-rigid material and the first end is closed by a cap containing a micro-porous filter for venting the vessel. In another or further embodiment, the nipple has a tapered tip portion which may be sliced off to permit extrusion of the isolated cryoprecipitate by squeezing the vessel. In a different further embodiment, the nipple has a twist-lockable connector, for attachment to a syringe or to an applicator tip. In yet another embodiment a piston mounts on the cap within the vessel for directly extruding separated cryoprecipitate from the nipple.

  • Patent number: 4720284
Abstract: In a method of separating different density fluid components, a fluid sample is placed in a first flexible container. The container and its contents are then spun at high speed while controlling the shape of the container so that its side walls spread apart and its bottom flattens to give the container and its contents a relatively small aspect ratio whereby different density components of the fluid contents travel minimum distances while separating in the container to achieve a density distribution in the container, with the densest components of the fluid distal to the spin axis being distributed over a relatively large area surface constituted by the container bottom. The method is particularly applicable to separating different components of human blood. Various apparatus for practicing the method are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4582606
Abstract: Apparatus for separating or partitioning different density components of a liquid includes a liquid transfer pack composed of first and second flexible bags whose interiors are connected by tubing and a carrier for supporting the transfer pack. the carrier includes first and second sections defining first and second chambers for containing said first and second bags which sections can telescope between an extended condition wherein the volume of the second chamber is a maximum and a collapsed or retracted condition wherein the volume of the second chamber is a minimum. The two sections are biased toward their extended condition so that the first and second bags can be positioned in said chambers so that when the carrier and pack are spun at a selected high speed about an axis perpendicular to the carrier telescoping axis, the carrier sections will retract thereby maintaining the second bag in a collapsed condition in the second chamber minimum volume until the spinning slows to a selected lower speed.
