Each magnetic block unit also includes one or more magnetic elements on each of the tow or more connection faces, each magnetic element having a magnetic polarity relative to the connection face that is the same as each of the other magnetic elements on all of the connection faces. Each magnetic block unit further includes an outer shell covering both the block body and each of the one or more magnetic elements. The outer shell includes an indicator of the polarity of the magnetic elements within the magnetic block unit.
