Patent number: 7156200Abstract: A frame for a tracked skid steer loader machine or multi-terrain loader machine is provided having a structural design that enables the loader machine to be modularly assembled using a variety of pre-assembled components, namely a lower frame assembly, an upper frame assembly and an undercarriage. The lower frame assembly includes a pair of recessed channels formed on a base portion of the lower frame assembly and extending the width of the lower frame assembly. The undercarriage includes right and left track assemblies connected by a pair of crossmembers. Each recessed channel is engagingly associated with a respective crossmember of the undercarriage, thereby allowing for the modular assembly of a loader machine when the recessed channels of the lower frame assembly are mounted over the crossmembers of the undercarriage. An upper frame assembly may be mounted on the lower frame assembly before or after the lower frame assembly is mounted onto the undercarriage.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2001Date of Patent: January 2, 2007Assignee: Caterpillar S.A.R.L.Inventors: Brian R. Dershem, Reid W. Waitt

Patent number: 6167980Abstract: A mounting and stabilizing arrangement for an engine with first and second end portions is disclosed. The mounting and stabilizing arrangement is adapted for use in a work machine with a frame assembly which includes a pair of side rails. A crossmember is connected between the pair of side rails. A bumper assembly is connected to the frame assembly at one end portion of the work machine. A pair of spaced mounts are connected to the crossmember. Each of the pair of mounts are positioned in a spaced relationship from a respective side rail. A single stabilizer is connected on the bumper assembly so that the first end portion of the engine is connected on the stabilizer and the second end portion of the engine is mounted on the pair of mounts to align the engine parallel with the pair of side rails of the frame assembly.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 1998Date of Patent: January 2, 2001Assignee: Caterpillar S.A.R.L.Inventors: Robert S. Patent number: 6135230Abstract: An interlock control system for controlling certain operations of a work machine wherein such system includes a first switch coupled to an operator restraint mechanism, a second switch coupled to the operator seat, a third switch operable to control the operation of the parking brake mechanism, and an electronic controller coupled to all three switches for receiving signals therefrom, the controller outputting a signal to enable the drive mechanism and the implement control system when the controller receives signals from the first, second and third switches indicative of the fact that the operator is present in the seat, the operator restraint mechanism is positioned in its restraining position, and the parking brake switch has been actuated to release the parking brake. With the drive mechanism and implement control system enabled, a second activation of the parking brake switch will disable the drive mechanism and set the parking brake, but it will not disable the implement control system.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1998Date of Patent: October 24, 2000Assignee: Caterpillar S.A.R.L.Inventors: Raymond T. Schenck, W. Chris Swick, Steven T. Ufheil, Reid W. Waitt

Patent number: 6116454Abstract: A rotomolded hydraulic oil tank includes an integral dividing baffle which strengthens the tank structure, and diverts and slows returning oil for better air removal and oil mixing. This occurs by positioning the dividing baffle so that the top of the baffle is just below the oil level in the tank so that returning oil must flow a greater distance around the baffle at a reduced velocity thereby increasing the time the oil is in the tank before exiting the tank through the tank suction. The lower velocity of the oil and the increased passage time allows air in the returning oil more time to float to the surface of the oil in the tank.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1998Date of Patent: September 12, 2000Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: David D. Henderson, William C. Swick, Reid W. Waitt

Patent number: 6102471Abstract: A hold-open mechanism for a canopy of a skid steer loader machine is described herein. The hold-open mechanism includes a support block secured to a frame of the machine, a wedging block secured to the canopy, and a prop device. A bracket is connected at a body portion to the support block and extends therefrom for termination at a head portion. A pair of arms extend perpendicularly from the body portion. The prop device has a bar with first and second end portions and a lever connected to the bar and supported within the arms of the bracket. A biasing spring is positioned on the bracket adjacent the bar for biasing the prop device to a working location from a resting location. In a closed position, the canopy is forced against the biasing action of the spring to maintain the prop device in the resting location.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1998Date of Patent: August 15, 2000Assignee: Caterpillar S.A.R.L.Inventors: Jamison T. Sasser, Reid W. Waitt, Andrew S. Miller, John R. Beaton
