  • Publication number: 20130188491
Abstract: For separating data traffic in an uplink (UL) edge node (100) of a communication network, UL one or more packet filters (110) are provided in the UL edge node (100). The packet filters (110) identify data packets in UL traffic from the UL edge node (100). Gating data associated with the packet filters (110) are evaluated, e.g. to derive gating control signals (GC1, GC2, GC3) of the individual packet filters (110). Depending on the evaluation of the gating data, the identified data packets are discarded.

  • Patent number: 8477608
Abstract: A method is described for controlling the conformance of a data flow in a communication system to a traffic definition. The communication system comprises a transmitter and a receiver and data packets transporting the data flow are sent from the transmitter to the receiver. The receiver sends responses identifying received data packets to the transmitter, and the transmitter comprises a control function which controls the number of sent data packets for which no response is received according to a limit for the number of outstanding data packets. A conditioning criterion is obtained for the data flow, the conditioning criterion being associated with the traffic definition. The receiver determines a conformance parameter for the received data packets transporting the data flow. The limit and/or the sending of the responses is modified according to the conditioning criterion and the determined conformance parameter for controlling the number of transmitted data packets.

  • Publication number: 20130155863
Abstract: For allowing differentiated handling of network traffic, a message is received by a traffic type detector. The traffic type detector extracts a network label, e.g. a domain name, a hostname, or a network address, from the message and compares this extracted network label to one or more stored network labels. On the basis of the comparison, adaptation of a quality of service level for a forwarding treatment of data packets associated with the message is initiated, e.g. by controlling a bearer used for communicating the data packets.

  • Publication number: 20130156038
Abstract: Differentiated Handling of Data Traffic with Adaptation of Network Address Lookup in a method of differentiated handling of data traffic, the data traffic is related to a network resource and is preceded by a lookup procedure for obtaining a network address of the network resource. A message of the lookup procedure is processed for adapting the lookup procedure. Due to the adaptation, the lookup procedure returns a network address of a replacement network resource. The replacement network resource is capable of replacing the network resource in communication of data packets of the data traffic. On the basis of the network address of the replacement network resource, differentiated handling of the data packets in said communication with the replacement network resource is accomplished.

  • Publication number: 20130148665
Abstract: In order to allow efficient differentiated handling of network traffic in a network section, a network address translator performs network address translation on incoming data packets to be transmitted into the network section and/or on outgoing data packets transmitted from the network section. In the incoming data packets, the network address translation replaces a source network address with a replacement network address. In the outgoing data packets, a replacement network address is included in place of a destination address, and the network address translation replaces the replacement network address with the destination network address. In each case, the replacement network address is selected according to a traffic class of the data packet. In the network section, differentiated handling of the data packets on the basis of the replacement network address is provided.

  • Publication number: 20130136091
Abstract: For efficiently handling network traffic via a fixed access, classification of UL data traffic in a communication device (100) may be accomplished in a reflective mode by detecting identifiers of outgoing uplink data packets which are complementary to identifiers of incoming downlink data packets. The downlink data packets are already assigned to the traffic classes (50). The outgoing uplink data packets carrying the complementary identifier are assigned to the same traffic class (50) as the incoming downlink data packets. For this purpose, the communication device (100) is provided with a traffic classificator (110). In the reflective mode, the traffic classificator (110) locally generates uplink packet classification rules (115) by monitoring received downlink data packets.

  • Publication number: 20120275367
Abstract: In a mobile communication network, data traffic of a certain quality of service class is forwarded in accordance with a traffic forwarding policy associated with this quality of service class, e.g. by establishing dedicated bearers (52, 54). For implementing energy control, an energy control attribute is assigned to the quality of service class. On the basis of the energy control attribute, a data throughput for forwarding the data traffic is limited to a maximum limit. This may be accomplished by using a throughput limiter (150, 250) in one or more nodes (100, 110, 120, 200) participating in the transport of the data traffic.

  • Patent number: 8200838
Abstract: A method of controlling the flow of an amount of data from a sending peer to a receiving peer of a predetermined communication protocol is described. The method comprises dividing the amount of data into a plurality of data segments, where the data segments are ordered in a sequence. The segments are sent to the receiving peer in the order of said sequence. The receiving peer acknowledges the correct receipt of a data segment and identifies the last correctly received data segment of the sequence that was received in the proper order of the sequence. The sending peer is arranged such that if it receives a threshold number of duplicate acknowledgements, it performs a retransmission. The threshold number that trigger a retransmission is an adaptive parameter determined based on the size of a receive window, the size of the receive window representing a number of data segments which can be stored in a buffer space at the receiving peer.

  • Publication number: 20120134264
Abstract: In a mobile communication environment, the data traffic is mapped to a number of bearers (52, 54). In a downlink direction, this is accomplished by filtering data packets on the basis of an identifier which is included into the data packets in response to packet inspection. In the uplink direction, a mirroring function is applied which detects incoming data packets, which are received on one of a plurality of bearers (52, 54) and have a first identifier, and outgoing data packets having a second identifier which is complementary to the first identifier. The outgoing data packets having the complementary second identifier are routed to the same bearer (52, 54) from which the incoming data packets are received.

  • Publication number: 20120106355
Abstract: In a mobile communication network, the data traffic is mapped to a number of bearers (52, 54) between a terminal (10) and a gateway (26). Upon a triggering event, data packets of a specific type, which are to be monitored, are assigned to a monitoring bearer (54), which is dedicated for performance monitoring purposes. The monitoring bearer (54) and a transport bearer for carrying data packets of said specific type between a non-monitored terminal and the gateway (26) have the same traffic forwarding policy. Data packets may then be filtered from the monitoring bearer (54) at a desired node between the terminal (10) and the gateway (26), and a performance parameter may be evaluated on the basis of the filtered data packets.
