  • Patent number: 4814933
Abstract: A potential indicating device for indicating the presence of a voltage on a connector in a high voltage electrical distribution system, the connector including a conductor, a semiconductive shield and a test point terminal. The device comprises two separate indicator circuits, each energized by a different voltage capacitively coupled to the conductor. When a voltage is present in the conductor, first circuit means transmits a voltage capacitively coupled to the test point terminal to a visible indicator which flashes intermittently, and second circuit means transmits a voltage capacitively coupled to the semiconductive shield to an audible indicator when switching means closes the second circuit means. Preferably switching means comprises a photosensitive transistor normally shielded from light by a removable plug.

  • Patent number: 4685021
Abstract: A fault current diverter for use with high voltage electrical equipment is operative to divert fault current to ground by establishing a non-arcing low impedance current path to ground. The diverter includes a switching device having a moving contact which, in response to the triggering of a chemical propellant charge, is rapidly driven so as to pierce solid insulation and make contact with a high voltage conductor or terminal thereby to establish the non-arcing low impedance path.

  • Patent number: 4582352
Abstract: A live-line loadbreak tool for use with separable insulated connectors incorporates features which facilitate safe and rapid handling of the connectors during switching operations. One feature is a grasping mechanism which positively engages a connector so as to ensure its safe handling after it has been pulled. Another feature is an impact mechanism consisting of a slide hammer which differs from conventional impact tools in that it is adapted to be grasped with both hands, and in that it is automatically latched at the end of its working stroke.

  • Patent number: 4516823
Abstract: In a gas-actuated loadbreak bushing having an axially displaceable snuffer/contact assembly, the assembly is provided with radial lockout means in the form of gas-actuated radial pistons which, when actuated in response to a fault closure, interfere with an end abutment lip of the bushing housing so as to prevent resetting of the bushing thereby indicating to the lineman a need to replace the bushing and so eliminating the risk of having the bushing subjected to repeated fault closure.
