  • Patent number: 8168150
Abstract: The invention relates to binary, ternary and quaternary lithium phosphates of general formula Li(FexM1yM2z)PO4 wherein M1 represents at least one element of the group comprising Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Al, Zr, and La; M2 represents at least one element of the group comprising Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Al, Zr, and La; x=between 0.5 and 1, y=between 0 and 0.5, z=between 0 and 0.5, provided that x+y+z=1, or x=0, y=1 and z=0. The said lithium phosphates can be obtained according to a method whereby precursor compounds of elements Li, Fe, M1 and/or M2 are precipitated from aqueous solutions and the precipitation product is dried in an inert gas atmosphere or a reducing atmosphere at a temperature which is between room temperature and approximately 200° C. and tempered at a temperature of between 300° C. and 1000° C. The inventive lithium phosphates have a very high capacity when used as cathode material in lithium accumulators.

  • Patent number: 6511639
Abstract: A process for recycling electrode materials from spent lithium batteries in which negative-electrode materials from the lithium/transition-metal mixed oxide class of compounds from discharged, spent lithium batteries can, after comminution of the electrode constituents, be re-synthesized into chemically identical products as employed for the production of the batteries comprising mechanical and extractive processing of these constituents with the aim of removing positive-electrode constituents and other secondary constituents, such as binders and other processing auxiliaries, followed by controlled high-temperature treatment without leaving thermal decomposition products behind.

  • Patent number: 6080510
Abstract: Ternary lithium mixed oxides having a spinel-type crystal structure and the general formula (I) Li.sub.y Me.sub.x Mn.sub.2-x O.sub.4 are disclosed. In this formula (I), Me represents a metal cation from groups IIa, IIIa, Iva, IIb, IIIb, IVb, IVb, VIIb, and VIII of the Periodic Table of Elements, x is in a range between 0 and 1, and y is in a range of greater than zero and not more than 1.2. The ternary mixed lithium oxide is obtainable by reacting reaction components in the form of hydroxides and/or water-soluble metal salts dissolved in a basic aqueous medium to form a homogenous suspension of the hydroxylic reaction products, removing water and optionally further solvents from the suspension, and subjecting the dried reaction products to heat treatment by heating them to temperatures between 500.degree. C. and 900.degree. C. at a heating speed of between 1 K/min and 20 K/min. The respective mixed oxides obtained are in a form which has no phase having a radiographic effect.
