  • Patent number: 4679335
Abstract: A bicycle shoe is disclosed in which a plurality of spaced air scoops are located at the front of the shoe and aligned with channels formed in the inner base of the shoe and extending toward the heel. As the wearer moves rapidly forward on a bicycle, air is taken in through the scoops and distributed across the wearer's foot, producing a comfortable cooling action. The depths of the channels at their forward ends are preferably increased to provide the air scoops with greater intake areas, and the advantageous arrangements of the channels along the base of the shoe are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4640027
Abstract: A motorcycle boot is described with a positive air circulating system which distributes air over the wearer's foot in a continuously replenished flow. Air enters the boot through air scoops on the upper sides, travels down an intake duct at the rear, is distributed along the sole through a network of open channels, and flows against the underside of the wearer's foot through perforations in the inner sole. An exhaust path is provided through vent ports above the sole, exhaust ducts which run up the rear of the boot on either side of the intake duct, and vent openings which exhaust the air to the outside. Openings may be provided in the scoops immediately above the vent openings to produce a venturi action that stimulates the flow of air through the boot.

  • Patent number: 4587749
Abstract: A vented motorcycle boot in which air scoops are provided at the upper side and the front of the boot, with air ducts running down along the sides of the boot from the scoops to the ankle area. A cooling flow of air is established through the scoops and ducts to the most sensitive portion of the foot, while the location of the scoops toward the top of the boot minimizes the amount of dirt or water than can enter the ventilation system. The side scoop faces forward and collects relatively large quantities of air, while the front scoop faces toward the side and promotes circulation by either collecting outside air or venting inside air, depending upon the particular construction of the scoop and the riding conditions. Plugs are provided to close off the scoops in case of particularly muddy conditions.

  • Patent number: 4570269
Abstract: A vented racing glove suitable for motorcycle use in which a flexible protective pad is attached over the top of the gloove. The pad has various integrally formed upstanding air scoops which receive air when the glove is in motion to provide positive ventilation to its interior, and protect the wearer's hand in case of a fall. Ventilation grills are also provided in the pad in the form of parallel upstanding ribs with vent openings in the pad between adjacent ribs. The grills likewise provide both ventilation and protection. The fingers of the pad include forward facing air scoops behind the finger joints and rearward facing air scoops forward of the finger joints, with the air inlets of both scoops facing forward when the wearer grips a motorcycle hand grip.
