Abstract: A first rack-and-pinion device is operatively connected to a steering wheel of a motor vehicle, and a second rack-and-pinion device is provided to be operated by a motor. Both racks are operatively connected by a pair of link mechanisms. Each link mechanism is arranged to combine gear ratios of the first and second rack-and-pinion devices to steer front wheels of the vehicle at a resultant gearing ratio.

Abstract: A pair of planetary gear devices and a viscous coupling are provided in a power transmitting system. The viscous coupling operates to transmit power of an engine in accordance with the difference between speeds of an input member and output member thereof. One of the members of one of the planetary gear devices is operatively connected to a front drive shaft through the viscous coupling and another member of the other planetary gear device is operatively connected to a rear drive shaft. A pair of change-over coupling devices are provided to selectively lock the planetary gear devices and the viscous coupling.

Abstract: A planetary gear device is provided in a power transmitting system. First and second clutches are provided on a front drive shaft and a rear drive shaft respectively. One of members of the planetary gear device is operatively connected to the front drive shaft through the first clutch and another member of the planetary gear device is operatively connected to the rear drive shaft through the second clutch. Both clutches are selectively engaged in accordance with driving conditions for providing proper distribution of torque to the front and rear wheels of the vehicle.

Abstract: A control system comprises a remote control system and a keyless entry system. The remote control system has an electromagnetic wave communication system including a portable transmitter transmitting a signal modulated in accordance with a code and a receiver provided in the motor vehicle to receive the modulated signal and to demodulate it to produce a code signal. The code signal is compared with a registered code signal. When the code signal coincides with the registered code signal, an actuator is operated to lock and unlock a door. The keyless entry system has a manual operating device provided on a handle of the door. The manual operating device has at least one switch manually operated so as to produce an on-off signal. When the on-off signal coincides with the registered code signal, the actuator is operated.

Abstract: A planetary gear device is provided in a power transmitting system. One of the members of the planetary gear device is operatively connected to a front drive shaft and another member is operatively connected to a rear drive shaft. A clutch, the clutch torque of which is continuously changed, is operatively connected to the two members of the planetary gear device. The distribution of torque transmitted to the front and rear wheels is continuously changed by changing the clutch torque in accordance with driving conditions.

Abstract: A system for controlling cooling water temperature for an engine has a radiator, a cooling water passage communicating a water jacket in the engine with the radiator, and a thermostat provided in the cooling water passage. The system is provided with a bypass for bypassing the thermostat, a bypass valve provided in the bypass for closing the bypass; and a solenoid operated valve for actuating the bypass valve. Switch circuits are connected parallel to the solenoid operated valve means.

Abstract: A muffler for a motor vehicle which serves as a reactor for oxidizing or re-burning unburned constituents in engine exhaust gases. The muffler comprises a heat insulated inner shell in which a chamber is provided with a silencing unit and is kept at a high temperature sufficient to oxidize the unburned constituents, an outer shell covering the heat insulated inner shell, and means for absorbing the thermal expansion of the inner shell provided in a supporting device of the inner shell. An exhaust pipe extends into the inner shell and has one end provided with a collector. The collector has a guide opening to pass engine exhaust gases into the inner shell while achieving mixing of the exhaust gases in the collector thereby to promote oxidizing reaction of the exhaust gases.
