  • Patent number: 4927701
Abstract: The invention relates to a sheet moulding compound (SMC) comprising a basic layer consisting of thermosetting material, fillers, fibres and customary additives, one side of which is provided with two layers, an intermediate layer and a top layer, the intermediate layer of which lies against the basic layer, the intermediate layer comprising at least fibre reinforcement and thermosetting material in a partly cured state and the top layer comprising the same or a different thermosetting material, which is in a cured state to a smaller extent than the first layer. The invention relates also to a sheet-shaped product that can be applied as an upper layer for a moulding compound like a SMC, BMC and DMC, that consists of the above described intermediate layer and top layer.

  • Patent number: 4316869
Abstract: A process for applying a cover layer based on thermosetting resin to objects of thermosetting resin. The process is characterized in that a shape imparting support face is heated to a temperature of 90.degree.-200.degree. C. and then is provided with a cover layer of a thermosetting resin with catalyst. After hardening the cover layer and cooling below 90.degree. C. a basic layer thermosetting resin is applied and hardened.

  • Patent number: 4315884
Abstract: The invention concerns a process in which a shaped article is prepared by first coating the inside of a mold with a coating powder, curing the coating, introducing a thermosetting mass in the mold and curing to form an article provided with a decorative layer. The invention consists in the use of a polyester-based coating powder, obtained by absorbing a liquid catalyst in part of the unsaturated components making up the powder, separately grinding that part and a mixture of the remaining components to about the same particle size and mixing the powders thus obtained. The invention assures better curing of the coating.

  • Patent number: 4287310
Abstract: A thermosetting powder based on a homogeneous mixture containing 50 to 92% by weight of an unsaturated polyester resin having a softening temperature of at least 50.degree. C. 50 to 30% bij weight of a prepolymer of a diallylester of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, 3 to 20% by weight of a high boiling, crosslinking monomer and 0.1 to 5% by weight of hardening catalyst, all weight percentages relating to the overall quantity of the polymerizable components.A process for the preparation of the thermosetting powder by melting and mixing the polyester resin and at least the greater part of the other polymerizable components except the catalyst subsequently the catalyst and the remaining portion of the polymerizable components is rapidly admixed to the melt at a temperature that is at least 20.degree. lower than the temperature corresponding to a half life time of 1 minute in which operation the time during which the catalyst is exposed to the higher temperature is max. 30 sec.

  • Patent number: 4228113
Abstract: Three-dimensional shaped objects are made by moulding a material, a moulding material consisting of mineral fillers and a thermosetting resin with a hardener being first evenly distributed outside the mould, the assembly (sheet) that has been prepared in this way and is still pliable being transferred to the mould and subsequently subjected to pressure at an elevated temperature, with the wall of the mould being provided, at the elevated temperature, with a layer of powdery, thermosetting resin with catalyst, which resin is made to melt and polymerize, after which the pretreated moulding material is installed in the mould and subjected to pressure. While the resin is melting, a fiber layer can be applied to it.

  • Patent number: 4076875
Abstract: Ornamental element consisting of a number of tile-shaped parts which are joined, with interspaces, on the non-exposed side to form a bond. The adjacent tile-shaped parts are given a fixed relative bond by one or more joining strips, which form one whole with the tile-shaped parts, and consist preferably of one and the same material, and are moulded in one action. The joining strips are made as bridgings, the height of the opening of which plus the tile thickness is equal to or larger than the width of the joint between the tile shaped parts; the thickness if equal to or smaller than the width of the joint. The bridge-shaped parts have a form which allows release from a mould. The ornamental element consists of a thermosetting agent, for example of an unsaturated polyester with fillers or a ceramic material.
