  • Patent number: 4939048
Abstract: An electrochemical battery having an alkaline electrolyte and a gelled negative electrode containing zinc powder free from mercury, cadmium, and lead, and 1 ppm to 1000 ppm of at least one organic stabilizer compound selected from polyfluorine compounds of the ethoxyl fluoroalcohol type and compounds of the alcoyl sulfide and polyethoxyl alcohol type, the electrode being provided with a negative current collector immersed in the gell and connected to the negative terminal, wherein the current collector comprises a bundle of conducting fibers which are fixed together at their ends closest to the negative terminal, the fibers having a diameter lying in the range 0.05 mm to 1 mm, and being constituted, at least superficially, by a metal selected from: indium; gallium; cadmium; and pure zinc.

  • Patent number: 4781999
Abstract: The invention provides a method of stabilizing a primary electrochemical cell which includes at least one reactive anode made of a metal selected from the group constituted by zinc, aluminum, and magnesium, the method consisting in adding a stabilizer to said electrode, the stabilizer concentration lying in the range 0.001% to 1% by weight of electrode metal, and the stabilizer comprising at least one alkyl and polyethoxylalcohol sulfide satisfying the following formula:R--S--(CH.sub.2).sub.2 --(O--CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --).sub.n --OH (1)in which:R is an alkyl radical which may optionally be branched, an aryl radical, or an alkylaryl radical; andn lies in the range 2 to 100.The invention also provides an anode obtained by the above method, and a primary electrochemical cell having an alkaline or a saline electrolyte and including such an anode.

  • Patent number: 4606984
Abstract: A process is provided for stabilizing a primary electrochemical generator comprising at least one reactive anode made from a metal chosen from the group comprising zinc, aluminium and magnesium, characterized in that to said electrode is added a percentage of 0.01% to 1% by weight with respect to the metal, of at least one perfluorated organic compound of the ethoxylated fluoroalcohol type. It also relates to an anode obtained by the above mentioned process and a primary electrochemical generator, with alkaline or saline electrolyte, comprising an anode of this type.

  • Patent number: 4450211
Abstract: An electrochemical generator is provided, more especially a cell or battery of the metal/air type, comprising a thin positive air electrode 1 forming cathode and having a shape such that it leaves available a space which it partially surrounds, a current collector 2 associated with this positive electrode, an anode mass 4 disposed inside this positive electrode in said available space, a second current collector 5 associated with this anode mass and possible a separator 6 between said anode mass and said positive electrode, characterized in that said positive electrode has the shape of a glove finger or bell.

  • Patent number: 4440835
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for manufacturing an electrode, particularly a thin gas electrode of any non flat shape, characterized in that an homogeneous mixture is prepared of dry particles of active compounds, formed by at least one compound with electrocatalytic activity and possibly by at least one compound presenting electronic conductivity, and dry polytetrafluorethylene fibers, a lubricant is added and possibly a surfactant so as to cause coating of the particles of the mixture with the lubricant, and the lubricated particles of the mixture are shaped to form the electrode. Thus, electrodes of different shapes are obtained, for example a glove finger shape. The invention also relates to a process for preparing a current collector for an electrochemical device electrode, characterized in that there is deposited, on at least a part of the surface of this electrode, a thin porous metal film adhering to the electrode.
