  • Publication number: 20090043307
Abstract: A disposable device for treatment of infections of human limbs, particularly limbs having long bones susceptible to stabilization by intramedullary nailing. The device comprises a tubular member (2) made of a relatively rigid and biologically compatible base material, having pores (2?) for impregnation with drugs or medicaments for infection treatment prior to or during insertion thereof in the stabilization site. An assembly for treatment of human limb infections comprising such device.

  • Publication number: 20080312588
Abstract: This invention finds application in the field of the devices and methods for physical or chemical mixing of products and particularly relates to a cartridge for storage and sterile delivery of a two-phase compound. The cartridge comprises a first tubular member (2) which defines a first chamber (3) for storage of a solid phase, having a bottom wall (6) with an opening (7) for the passage of the compound, a second tubular member (9) which defines a second hermetically sealed chamber (12) for storage of a liquid phase, and a piston which sealably slides within the first tubular member (2), means (8) for occluding said opening (7) which comprise at least one rupturable membrane (15) associated to the bottom wall (6).

  • Patent number: 7270667
Abstract: A device for the manual metering of a medical fluid, such as a hardening resin of the bone cement type, comprises a chamber for the fluid to be metered (2, 102) with an end opening (6), a gripping handle (7, 107), a piston (10, 110) which is housed in the chamber (2, 102) and provided with an operating member (12) for a user, and screw-type actuating means (13) arranged in between the operating member (12) and the piston (10) so as to perform the longitudinal movement thereof and pressurise the fluid to be metered. The screw means (13) may be modified so as to change from an operative configuration, where the piston is fed micrometrically, to an inoperative configuration, where the piston may move freely.

  • Patent number: 5984971
Abstract: A metacarpal-phalangeal and/or interphalangeal (1) prosthesis, particularly for joints in the hand or foot, comprising a pair of pins (2, 3) which can be implanted in bone adjacent to a joint to be restored and connected by a flexible joint (4) encapsulated in a protective enclosure formed from the same biocompatible material as the pins. The biocompatible material may be a mixture of plastic resins having high compatibility. The enclosure comprises a pair of half shells (5, 6)integral with the corresponding pins which extend axially on opposite side of a longitudinal plane of symmetry (S) which perpendicularly intersects the axis of rotation (a) of the joint. In a first embodiment, axis (a) is defined by a cylindrical pin (13) inserted in the axial cavity in the half shells and free to rotate with respect to at least one axis with limited flexibility in a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation (a).

  • Patent number: 5435645
Abstract: A process and apparatus is disclosed for the mixing and direct emplacement of a bone cement formed from two components, one liquid and one powder, comprising the steps of storing the two components separately in a multichamber container, opening the liquid phase container within one of the said chambers which is not in communication with the outside atmosphere, setting up a negative pressure within the chamber containing the powder phase, causing aspiration of the liquid into the chamber containing the powder, mixing the two phases, compacting the paste obtained, injecting the paste into a cannula and extruding the paste with direct emplacement of the cement.

  • Patent number: 5004501
Abstract: The invention relates to a two phase cement mixture which is particularly suitable for orthopaedic use, in which the solid phase comprises a polymer, polymetyl methacrylate, and a catalyst, benzoyl peroxide, while the liquid phase comprises a monomer, monomethyl methacrylate, an accelerator, N-N-dimethyl-p-toluidine and hydroquinone. The said polymetyl methacrylate is in powder form with particles of a spherical shape which are of a suitable particle size. Fluoride in form of salt can be added to the said solid phase, realizing fluoride ions, making them available to the part of the bone with which the said mixture is in contact when is used to attach a prothesis to a bone.
