  • Patent number: 4553767
Abstract: A roller skate includes a selectively engagable ratcheting plate that can be positioned for engaging a plurality of teeth formed integrally in one or more wheels of the skate. The plate rides on a cam that is slidably positioned for selective racheting or freewheeling operation. In the ratcheting mode the skate is prevented from rolling backwards thereby making it easier for a beginning skater to use.

  • Patent number: 4334690
Abstract: A roller skate having front and rear wheels mounted on a base plate member, a ratchet and pawl assembly mounted in association with at least one wheel such that said wheel is rotatable in one direction only when the pawl engages the ratchet. A back stop member is mounted on the rear of the base plate such that it will engage the ground or other supporting surface when the front of the skate is raised to a predetermined height. The base plate of the roller skate is adjustable along its longitudinal axis. The upper portion of the skate has quick release straps for securing the shoe or bare foot of the skater to the skate.

  • Patent number: 4312514
Abstract: A roller skate having a brake assembly attached to at least one wheel journal of the skate. The brake assembly has a brake member which may be selectively and adjustably brought to impart a frictional force against a wheel or wheels of the roller skate. This frictional force reduces the free rotatability of the wheel without otherwise adversely affecting the operational characteristics of the skate.

  • Patent number: 4291881
Abstract: A device for the generation of randomly selected numbers or other data. A plurality of small numbered wheels rest upon the surface of a larger base wheel. The larger base wheel is journaled upon a needle in a circular housing. Snap rings retain the base wheel and the smaller numbered wheel within the circular housing. Random data is generated by spinning the base wheel in either direction. The torque of this motion causes the smaller numbered wheels to spin in the opposite direction. When both the base wheel and smaller numbered wheels come to rest, a centrally located indicator determines the number or data selected.
