  • Patent number: 6994079
Abstract: A compound archery bow includes a handle having at least one projecting limb, and a pulley mounted for rotation on the limb. Bow cable segments extend from the bow pulley, including a bowstring cable segment extending from a bowstring let-out groove on the pulley, a second cable segment extending from second cable let-out on the pulley, and a third cable segment extending from a cable take-up groove on the pulley. Draw of the bowstring cable segment away from the handle withdraws the bowstring cable segment from the let-out groove on the pulley and rotates the pulley around its axis, withdraws the first cable segment from the cable let-out on the pulley, and winds the second cable segment into the cable take-up groove on the pulley. The cable take-up groove is contoured such that the draw force on the bowstring cable segment increases as a function of draw to a first level, and then decreases to a second level less than the first level and at which draw force remains substantially constant.

  • Patent number: 6990970
Abstract: A compound archery bow includes a handle having projecting limbs. A first pulley is mounted for rotation around a first axis on a first of the limbs, and a second pulley is mounted for rotation around a second axis on a second of the limbs. A bow cable arrangement extends between the pulleys, and includes a bowstring cable extending from bowstring let-out grooves in the first and second pulleys so that, as the bowstring cable is drawn away from the handle, the bowstring cable lets out or unwraps from the bowstring grooves and rotates the pulleys around the respective axes. First and second cables extend from cable take-up grooves on the respective pulleys to first and second cable let-out means on the respective opposite pulleys. Thus, as the bowstring cable is drawn away from the handle, the first and second cables are each taken up or wound at one end onto one of the pulleys and let out or unwound at the other end from the other pulley.

  • Patent number: 6666202
Abstract: A single-cam compound archery bow includes a bow handle having projecting limbs. A control wheel is mounted for rotation about an axis at an end of one of the limbs, and has a single peripheral groove that extends around such axis. A power cam is mounted for rotation at an end of the other limb. A bow cable arrangement includes a first cable segment anchored at one end to the one limb and at a second end to the power cam. A second cable segment is anchored to the control wheel and extends to the power cam. A third cable segment is anchored to the control wheel and extends to the power cam. The third cable segment includes a nock point that, when drawn away from the handle, unwraps the third cable segment from the control wheel groove, and wraps the second cable segment into the control wheel groove as the third cable segment is unwrapped from that groove. Drawing of the nock point away from the handle also wraps the first cable segment onto the power cam so as to draw the limbs together.

  • Patent number: 4926832
Abstract: A compound bow utilizes tension cables and bowstring cables acting on grooved cam pulley assemblies. The tension cables are not connected to the bowstring cables at the pulley assemblies but rather are separated at the pulleys and each separate end is formed as a loop. An attachment knob is formed integrally within the confines of the pulley and is provided with a re-entrant notch to provide a retainer attachment for the looped ends of a bowstring cable. A similar attachment can be provided for the ends of the tension cables. The concept may also be used to adjust draw length or tuning of the wheel timing as effected by the cable length by providing more than one knob spaced to allow shifting a looped end from one knob to another. The knobs with appropriate notches for the tension cables face in a direction opposite to those which receive the loop of the bowstring cable.

  • Patent number: 4926833
Abstract: An archery bow of the compound type with eccentrically mounted cam wheels or pulleys, one to carry the bowstring at each end, and one to carry the tension cable at each end. The tension cables are anchored at each end on small grooved discs which retain closed loops at the anchor end of the cables. The discs are centrally perforate to receive and be retained by an axle which also mounts the pulleys. Each disc has a plurality of slotted openings, or notches around a center, terminating in bights which are progressively at different distances from the center. This allows selective tensioning on the tension cables to tune the bow and adjust cable length.

  • Patent number: 4756296
Abstract: A high energy compound bow having multiple pulley sheaves eccentrically mounted on a common axis at each bifurcate distal end of the respective bow limbs. The bowstring is extended at each end over the pulley sheaves to a return cable, the ends of which are looped over anchor sheaves at the respective axles. The anchor sheaves are clustered centrally of the space between the bifurcate sections of the bow limbs with the bowstring pulley and a transition pulley which is positioned between the bowstring pulley and the anchor sheave. The transition sheave has a curved path which originates laterally of the bow limb essentially at the lateral position of the anchor sheave in the at-rest position of the bowstring. This sheave path shifts laterally as the bow is drawn to a position central to the bowstring pulley and the anchor sheave thereby centralizing the tension stress on the bow limbs to eliminate torque on the limbs at the high tension phase of the draw and release.
