  • Patent number: 11789000
Abstract: An aspirating detection system, a heat-detection device for an aspirating detection system, and a method of determining that a temperature in a monitored environment has exceed a predetermined threshold are provided. An aspirating detection system for monitoring an environment, the system including: an aspirating detector for aspirating and detecting smoke in a sample of air; a sampling pipe or providing a sample of air to the aspirating detector, the sampling pipe at least partially exposed to the monitored environment; and a heat-detection device exposed to the monitored environment and arranged to emit an airborne substance into the sampling pipe when the temperature of the monitored environment exceeds a predetermined threshold; the aspirating detector is arranged to detect the airborne substance and thereby detect that the temperature of the monitored environment exceeds the predetermined threshold.

  • Patent number: 11366048
Abstract: A smoke detector (100) for use with an aspiration smoke detector (ASD) is described. The smoke detector includes a light source (104) configured to emit a beam of light (108); a reflector (102) including an aperture (110), the aperture aligned with a direction of propagation of the beam of light when no scattering occurs; and a photodetector (106); the reflector configured to reflect light scattered from the beam of light received at the reflector to a single focal point; and the photodetector located at the single focal point. An aspiration smoke detector (ASD) system (2) includes the smoke detector and a method of detecting smoke using the smoke detector.

  • Patent number: 11189143
Abstract: An aspiration smoke detection system for detecting the presence of a fire within a region of interest. The aspiration smoke detection system includes a smoke detection unit for detecting the presence of smoke particles suspended in air; and one or more local sensors located remotely from the smoke detection unit for measuring a property of air from the region of interest that is drawn into the aspiration smoke detection system. An inlet piece includes a sensor for use with the aspiration smoke detection system is also provided. A method of detecting a fire using the aspiration smoke detection system and a method of locating a fire using the aspiration smoke detection system are also provided.
