  • Patent number: 9421086
Abstract: An adjustable, knotless button/loop/needle construct for fixation of cranial cruciate ligament deficient stifle. The adjustable, knotless construct includes two fixation devices (for example, two buttons) and at least one flexible, adjustable loop attached to at least one of the fixation devices (e.g., the buttons). Preferably, a needle is attached to each of the fixation devices (e.g., the buttons). The adjustable, knotless construct has an adjustable loop length and allows adjustment in one direction while preventing or locking the construct from loosening in the opposite direction, due to applied tensile forces. The construct and technique of the present invention provides an improved knotless system for cruciate ligament repair.

  • Publication number: 20160151060
Abstract: An adjustable suture-button construct for ligament reconstruction. The construct is a knotless, adjustable, flexible suture loop, a first fixation device (a free or removable slotted button) and optionally a second fixation device (a fixed, non-removable button). Suture ends of the knotless suture loop provide a variable-length graft support that can be adjusted prior to, during, or after deployment of the constructs. The removable, detachable fixation device is provided with attachment feature(s) to permit assembly onto the adjustable loop. The removable, detachable fixation device is attached to the tibia end of the loop construct after the loop construct is passed through the tibial tunnel (i.e., once the loop exits the anterior tibia cortex). If a fixed, non-removable button is employed, the fixed, non-removable button is securely attached (by stitching, for example) to the graft.

  • Publication number: 20160030035
Abstract: An adjustable, knotless button/loop construct for fixation of ankle syndesmosis tibio-fibular diastasis and an associated method of ankle repair using the same. The knotless construct comprises a pair of buttons attached to a flexible, continuous, self-cinching, adjustable loop integrated with two splices that are interconnected. The knotless construct is passed through fibular and tibia tunnels and the buttons are secured on the cortical surfaces of tibia and fibula. One of the buttons (for example, an oblong button) is secured on the medial side of the tibia by passing the button and the flexible, adjustable loop though the fibular and tibia tunnels and then flipping and seating the button outside the tibia. The length of the flexible adjustable loop is adjusted so that the second button (for example, a round button) is appropriately secured on the lateral fibula.

  • Patent number: 9095641
Abstract: Osteochondral implants for repair of chondral defects and providing bone fixation through bone ongrowth and/or ingrowth. The implant is provided with a base allowing for bone ongrowth and/or ingrowth and a top attached to the base, the top being formed of a material having a compressive resistance similar to that of the cartilage. The material of the top is polycarbonate urethane, for example. The base may comprise a porous substrate for bony ingrowth formed of metal or PEEK and having a pattern porosity about similar to the porosity of cancellous bone. One side of the top attaches to the base for stability, and the other side of the top forms a surface for articulating with the opposing cartilage surface of the joint.

  • Patent number: 8939999
Abstract: A device for tensioning suture which includes a cannulated tube that allows a suture to be fed through at least a portion of the tube. An adjustment device (for example, a wheel or a knob) is actuated to turn a threaded post on the end of the tube. A length of suture passes through at least a portion of the cannulated tube and is secured into a forked pin attached to the adjustment device. Turning the adjustment device draws against the suture, increasing therefore the tension on the suture. The suture tensioning device may be employed in conjunction with a tensiometer.

  • Publication number: 20150010606
Abstract: Formulations, mixtures, compositions and techniques for improved treatment options for osteoarthritis and intra-articular joint degeneration. The formulations and compositions are provided in the form of injectable aqueous formulations that increase the delivery of a lubricating agent (lubrication molecules) into the joint to resist breakdown, decrease free radical production (by neutralizing these radicals), and increase removal of superoxide byproducts in the synovial fluid. The injectable aqueous formulations are preferably administered into the intra-articular space of an intra-articular joint. The lubricating formulation includes molecules of lubricin and SOD, hyaluronic acid and SOD, or lubricin and SOD and hyaluronic acid, or hyaluronic acid and lubricin, or Vitamin E and SOD or hyaluronic acid, or combinations thereof.

  • Patent number: 8920497
Abstract: Methods and instruments for repairing a damaged acetabular labrum. The arc length of a portion of an acetabular rim proximal to the damaged (torn or broken) region of the acetabular labrum is measured, and a graft, such as a meniscal allograft or a gracilis autograft, is trimmed according to the measurement and secured in the damaged region of the acetabular labrum as a replacement. Various instruments, such as a wheel mounted on an arm, a measuring member with spaced tines, or a hollow arm with a graduated wire, can be used to measure the arc length of the damaged region of the acetabular labrum.

  • Patent number: 8840619
Abstract: A technique for forming a dovetail shaped groove in bone necessary in allograft transplantation such as the meniscus or the Achilles tendon. The technique uses a single drill guide that is designed to create a dovetail shape in bone. The drill guide is provided with a first opening for receiving one drill sleeve placed in a fixed location, and a second opening having an oblong shape for receiving a second drill sleeve having an offset cannulation. The combination of the two drill sleeves allows the surgeon to place two guide pins and ream over each guide pin resulting in a dovetail shape in the bone.

  • Patent number: 8753375
Abstract: Techniques and reconstruction systems for tissue repairs employing a Z-shaped button with a flexible strand or loop (which may have a fixed or adjustable length). The Z-shaped button has a distinctive Z-shape or an S-shape configuration, that allows a smaller length button to achieve comparable contact area as with a longer length button. The Z-shaped button allows for truncated flipping distance yet permits maximum cortical bone contact. The continuous loop/Z-shaped button construct may be used for fixation of bone to bone, or of soft tissue to bone.

  • Publication number: 20140114367
Abstract: A specialized obturator that has a curved configuration designed specifically for entry through the anterior joint and out the back of the knee in the ideal position for a posterior portal. The curved obturator is shaped to avoid intact knee ligaments and femoral condyles. The obturator is provided with an eyelet located at the tip and may be employed with a cannula similar to a PassPort™ Button cannula, but with one or more sutures placed through the “neck” behind the collar. A standard “inside-out” cannula may be used as well, but dimensioned for the specialized obturator.
