  • Patent number: 6512531
Abstract: Methods and apparatus that enable a user to select a font from a collection of available fonts. The invention receives font data identifying each font in a collection of available fonts, identifies a location in a navigation space for each available font, receives a target location, and uses the target location to identify a candidate font in the collection of available fonts. The navigation space is defined by a set of navigation attributes. Each navigation attribute corresponds to a distinguishing font characteristic. Each location is defined by a set of navigation attribute values for all navigation attributes defining the navigation space. The target location is defined by input values for each navigation attribute specified by a navigation input received interactively from the user. The candidate font is a font with a location in the navigation space identical to the first target location if the collection of available fonts contains such a font.

  • Patent number: 6144974
Abstract: A method and apparatus for repositioning a content object on a page in response to a request to change the page framework associated with the page, the method including receiving a user request to change the page framework. The current page framework information associated with the page is retrieved including a description for each framework member in the current page framework. Alignment data for the content object is derived by determining if any edge of the content object aligns with a framework member. Thereafter, the page layout is redefined according to the user request. Finally, the content object is repositioned on the redefined page based on the alignment data.

  • Patent number: 5666543
Abstract: The publication prolog of a PostScript page description language (PDL) or other PDL file is modified to create traps within an interpreter or raster image processor (RIP). The publication prolog is modified to provide the trapping instructions to the RIP, while the script is sent unmodified to the RIP. In a preferred embodiment, modification of the publication prolog to instruct the RIP includes creating a directory of the color objects in the publication, and trapping the color objects in the publication using the directory. Thereafter, the modified publication prolog and script are sent to the RIP and trap areas are created as the publication is rendered.
