Publication number: 20120280451Abstract: A method of educating includes providing a collectible trading card game with a plurality of trading cards. Each card may contain educational information including a consonant, vowel, number or mathematical operator and the cards are used to form a properly spelled word or to form a mathematically correct equation. In some forms, the method includes providing a game with a playing field and a set of game components with game component types having a predetermined power for affecting play of the game by affecting a power, effect, or value of the game component. The level of skill necessary to play the game may be varied by selectively implementing or disregarding the predetermined power of the game components. An educational game includes first and second game components with different expressions, powers, point values, and identifiers for distinguishing game components and facilitating game play.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 13, 2012Publication date: November 8, 2012Inventors: Todd B. Publication number: 20060059077Abstract: An electronic trading system is described herein. More specifically, the electronic trading system may relate to the substantially simultaneous trading of cash instruments and their related futures contracts for interest-rate related instruments. The electronic trading system may also be used to allow a user (such as a market maker or other suitable participant) to gauge his chance of success at completing both sides of a basis trade within a preferably pre-determined or pre-set interval, while knowing in advance the specific weighting algorithm that will be applied to the basis trade. The electronic trading system may also be used to allow a user to predetermine the exact weighting algorithm to be used on such a basis trade, and to adjust those preferences where necessary or desired.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 13, 2004Publication date: March 16, 2006Inventors: Richard Goodman, Michael Sweeting

Patent number: 6088210Abstract: A solid state device protects large industrial electromagnets from the effects of dissipating stored magnetic energy when the supply voltage to the electromagnet is removed (for example, by accidental cutting of the power cables) while the electromagnet is energized. The device also serves as a safety device to protect operating personnel against serious injury or death when the personnel disconnect the electromagnet and power cables while the electromagnet is energized. The device monitors the voltage at the terminals of an electromagnet and, when the voltage exceeds a predetermined trigger voltage indicating an open magnet discharge path, causes the magnet energy to be safely dissipated in a power semiconductor circuit.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1998Date of Patent: July 11, 2000Inventor: Paul Richard Goodman

Patent number: 6045963Abstract: A negative waterless plate contains a sheet substrate; a radiation sensitive imaging layer composed of a diazido naphthaquinone ester or amide compound, such as diazido naphthaquinone sulfonate of a phenolic resin, and a polyurethane prepared by reacting a di-isocyanate and a diol; and a silicone layer. The planographic printing plate is imagewise exposed to actinic radiation through a negative original to form exposed areas of the imaged layer which are soluble or dispersible in a developer liquid. After imaging exposure, the developer liquid is applied which penetrates the silicone layer and dissolves the areas exposed to the radiation. The coating areas not exposed by the radiation remain intact. During this development procedure, areas of the silicone layer overlying the exposed areas are removed along with the underlying soluble areas to produce an imaged planographic printing plate having uncovered ink receptive areas and complimentary ink repellent areas of the silicone layer.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1998Date of Patent: April 4, 2000Assignee: Kodak Polychrome Graphics LLCInventors: Jianbing Huang, Richard Goodman, Thi Do

Patent number: 5335113Abstract: A diffraction grating of reflective or transmissive lines is formed by a regular matrix of pixels each containing a respective curvilinear portion of one or more of said lines. When the pixels are illuminated, each generates a two-dimensional optical catastrophe image diffraction pattern whereby the total image diffraction pattern of the grating is optically variable but structurally stable. The invention further provides a diffraction grating of reflective or transmissive lines, comprising a multiplicity of diffraction grating regions which are at least partly separated by multiplicity of grating free regions. Each grating free region has a dimension which is at least large enough to be resolved by the human eye, the total grating free areas not exceeding about 20 to 50% of the total area of the grating. The disclosed diffraction grating is useful as a security device for currency or credit cards.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1991Date of Patent: August 2, 1994Assignee: Reserve Bank of AustraliaInventors: Wayne K. Jackson, Richard A. Goodman
