  • Publication number: 20230208321
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a system and method that produces thrust without a propellant or any physically moving parts. The disclosed method produces thrust by accelerating electrons between a multilayer capacitive stack and taking advantage of a conductive dampener that makes up a single thrust unit. For example, as power is applied to a first conductive layer separated by a second conductive layer by at least one dielectric layer, the electrons accelerating from the first layer produce a thrust whose direction is determined by the presence of a cover layer. Multiple middle conductive layers with corresponding dielectric layers can provide thrust scalability. Stacked thrust units with a minimum of a calculated distance between said units can also scale the thrust observed. Specialty materials with built in dielectrics such as anodized aluminum can further improve the thrust unit.

  • Patent number: 8661089
Abstract: In a data processing system including a virtual I/O server (VIOS) cluster and multiple logical partitions (LPARs), at least one VIOS of the VIOS cluster performs functions of: receiving first registration information from one or more entities within the VIOS cluster; registering, based on the first registration information, a handler associated with a first message type; responsive to receiving second registration information, registering, based on the second registration information, a listener associated with a second message type; receiving a first message associated with a first alert event of the cluster; determining, based on the first message, that the handler is associated with the first message type; and calling the handler. In one embodiment, the handler is associated with a pointer to a subroutine, and registering the handler includes storing the pointer in a data structure that associates the handler with the first message type.

  • Patent number: 8615676
Abstract: A first virtual I/O server (VIOS) provides a cluster aware (CA) operating system (OS) executing on a processor resource of the first VIOS to register the first VIOS within a VIOS cluster. The first VIOS comprises a first field/failure data capture (FFDC) module that executes within the first VIOS and performs the functions of: receiving from an event listener a signal indicating that an FFFDC event/condition has been detected by the first VIOS; and automatically transmitting FFDC data to the shared storage repository for storage of the FFDC data within the shared storage repository. The FFDC module further performs the functions of: transmitting to one or more second VIOSes within the VIOS cluster, one or more messages to inform the one or more second VIOSes of an occurrence of the FFDC event/condition that was detected by the first VIOS.

  • Patent number: 8176185
Abstract: A method of communicating with a remote site on a network by establishing different user personas respectively associated with different remote sites on the network, each user persona containing one or more attributes used in accessing the remote sites, and then accessing a specific one of the remote sites using the attributes in a specific one of the user personas that is associated with the specific remote site. The specific remote site can be associated with the specific user persona by a universal resource locator (URL), e.g., for web sites on the Internet, and the accessing is automatically performed in response to matching of the URL of the specific remote site to the URL associated with the specific user persona. A default persona can be used for any remote site having no specifically associated user persona.

  • Patent number: 7890952
Abstract: Methods, systems, and products are provided for peer-to-peer computer software installation. Embodiments include receiving, by an observing install agent running on an observing host from a test install agent running on a test host, performance information describing the performance of software installed on the test host; determining, by the observing install agent, whether the performance information meets performance criteria for the observing host; and if the performance information meets the performance criteria for the observing host, installing the software on the observing host. In some embodiments, determining, by the observing install agent, whether the performance information meets performance criteria for the observing host is carried out by determining, whether the performance information meets performance criteria for the observing host in dependence upon a rule.
