  • Patent number: 5479015
Abstract: A multi-image detector assembly has an array of detector elements formed upon a single focal plane and a plurality of focusing members, each focusing member focusing a substantially identical scene upon a corresponding one of a plurality of sections of the array. An optical element such as a spectral or polarizing filter is disposed within a plurality of the optical paths of the focusing members, preferably proximate the focal plane. Image detection occurs continuously and simultaneously so as to provide a spatially and temporally correlated set of separate images utilizing the single focal plane.

  • Patent number: 4324985
Abstract: In a wind turbine assembly incorporating a diffuser, the diffuser includes an articulated duct formed of a set of members, such as the sectors of a conic section, which are pivotable about axes in a plane normal to the turbine axis. To permit an enlargement or contraction of the articulated duct, the members are joined by flexible gussets or, alternatively, are configured for overlapping. Springs offset from the pivoting axes are attached to the members to provide a bistable attitude thereto. In response to high winds, the spring forces are overcome by the wind forces on the articulated duct to allow the members to pivot inwardly reducing the effective wind capture area of the diffuser. The diffuser is further fabricated with slots between sections of duct to enlarge the effective area swept by the turbine blades for increased power availability from the turbine.

  • Patent number: 4075500
Abstract: A wind powered electrical generating system having a suitable shaped aerodynamic duct or shroud within which a wind turbine having a fixed pitch blade is mounted, as by means of a stator means at the inlet of the duct or shroud with the stator means including mechanism for varying their effective angle of attack with regard to the approaching wind so as to provide the desired swirling approach of the wind to the turbine therebehind in achieving the desired torque and speed of shafting from the turbine to generator driven by the turbine in maintaining constant phase and frequency of the electrical output wherein the duct or shroud is mounted by a tower or shaft that will permit the cocking of the structure into the wind.

  • Patent number: 3958458
Abstract: Pseudo sound created by the interaction of fluid flowing over a discontinuity in a conduit is sensed by a transducer. The transducer signal is reduced to a frequency-amplitude distribution and the amplitude at the characteristic frequency is used to calculate fluid flow rate using a dipole model. The apparatus is non-intrusive and passive. Several transducers may be serviced by a single central, processor remote from the transducer site.Alternative apparatus provides for the determination of change in fluid flow direction and fluid density.
