Patent number: 7866606Abstract: An energy absorber system for aircraft survivability. The energy absorber system includes energy absorbers providing energy absorption in a plurality of occupant weight ranges, said system providing a controlled range of dynamic response index (DRI) and of lumbar load level in one of said occupant weight ranges and greater energy absorption stroke distance in one of said occupant weight ranges as the occupant weight increases toward its maximum value for the weight range.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 2005Date of Patent: January 11, 2011Assignee: LME, Inc.Inventor: Walter Richard Peck

Patent number: 6603776Abstract: The system for broadband data payload conversion functions to efficiently convert broadband data between two sets of data formats. In particular, this software system converts between AUG/AU3/VC3 clear channel payloads and AU4/VC4/TU3/VC3 clear channel payloads in an efficient manner, which also complies with the industry standard data formatting requirements. The present system implements an efficient data format conversion process that uses existing circuitry and can effect the data format conversion with only a few bytes of delay instead of an entire frame of delay as is typically found in existing systems. This is accomplished by manipulating the format conversion to simplify the format conversion process.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1999Date of Patent: August 5, 2003Assignee: Lucent Technologies, Inc. & PMC-Sierra, Inc.Inventors: Jeff G. Fedders, Winston K. Mok, Stephen Richard Peck, Floyd Craig Wolverton

Patent number: 5746395Abstract: A helicopter safety system provides an increased likelihood of survivability without injury during "survivable" helicopter crashes. The system provides spinal compression for precompressing an operator's spine in response to a crash signal from a crash sensor. Also included is a strap tensioning device which tensions an inertia reel strap and thus restraining the operator's upper body more effectively in the helicopter seat. Preferably, the strap tensioning device is initiated simultaneously with the spinal compression. Also included are energy absorbers connected to the seat pan, for example, between the seat pan and the seat frame, and airbags connected to the harness. The harness also includes a cross coupling element to provide for a lateral support configuration.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1995Date of Patent: May 5, 1998Assignee: LME Inc.Inventors: Walter Richard Peck, Ronald Wayne Oates

Patent number: 4747610Abstract: A pallet sensing system, for a low lift pallet-type fork truck having load wheels extendible downwardly away from and retractable upwardly toward the forks to raise and lower the forks, is characterized by sensors for detecting proper alignment of the fork load wheels with respect to an opening in a bottom deck of a pallet. Upon the forks being extended into the pallet, the sensors disable lift controls of the truck to prevent the wheels from being extended away from the forks to lift the pallet until the sensors detect that the wheels are aligned for unobstructed passage through the bottom deck opening, whereupon the sensors enable the lift controls. The system prevents the pallet bottom deck from being broken by the wheels should an attempt be made to lift the pallet when the wheels are not positioned to pass freely through the opening, but would instead strike and break the bottom deck.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1987Date of Patent: May 31, 1988Assignee: Barrett Industrial Trucks, Inc.Inventors: Bruce A. Yingling, Richard A. Peck
