  • Patent number: 6938902
Abstract: A boot with O-ring seal for sealing around an article such as a universal joint housing includes a boot having a hollow body adapted to tightly receive the article. An O-ring extends lengthwise within an internal annular groove in the body. The O-ring, in its natural free state condition, has a radial dimension which is greater than the depth of the groove so that when the article is received in the body the O-ring is deformed and makes sealing contact with the article. The O-ring, in its natural free state condition, has an axial dimension which is less than the width of the groove by an amount such that when the article is received in the body and the O-ring makes sealing contact with the article, the O-ring is deformed into the space between the side walls of the groove.

  • Patent number: 6672596
Abstract: A seal adaptor assembly for use in a stroking universal joint of the type having an outer drive housing member having an exterior wall of non-uniform dimension including spaces between the parts of the housing enclosing the drive channels. The seal adaptor assembly includes an annular body and a plurality of insert having greater rigidity than the material of the annular body and wherein the inserts are located in the annular body at sections thereof that are located within outer housing spaces between the drive channels. The inserts are supported within the annular body at thin wall sections thereof and thereby provide for a more uniform compression of a resilient seal member between the housing and a clamp for holding the resilient seal member in place on the housing.

  • Patent number: 6550565
Abstract: A variable road feedback device (20) for a steer-by-wire system (50) comprises a housing (31) that contains a magnetorheological fluid (32), a magnetic field generator (34) for generating a variable magnetic field within the housing (31) in order to vary the viscous resistance of the magnetorheological fluid (32) therein, and a rotor (24) rotatably mounted within the housing (31) that rotates through the magnetorheological fluid (32) and is responsive to the variable viscous resistance thereof.

  • Patent number: 6190260
Abstract: A tripot-type universal joint includes a drive shaft mounting a spider with three roller elements disposed in three corresponding guide channels of an outer drive housing. The housing is formed with a retention groove on an inner surface thereof in which a stamped metal retainer is disposed. The retainer includes stop portions which extend along the running surfaces of the guide channels for wedging engagement between the drive rollers and drive channels to limit the outward stroke of the inner drive member and prevent the removal of the rollers from the housing.
