  • Patent number: 6234279
Abstract: An adjustment arrangement for a hydraulic brake actuator (11) of the type having a piston (17) which moves a preferred distance within a cylindrical bushing (15) portion of a housing between a quiescent retracted position with a preferred clearance space between one piston end and a brake mechanism, and an extended position with the piston end engaging and actuating the brake mechanism in response to the application of hydraulic fluid pressure includes a return spring (23) which, upon relief of the hydraulic pressure, urges the piston (17) back from the brake mechanism engaging position to the retracted position. There is an internally disposed mechanical piston clearance space adjustment feature including an expandable sleeve (33) which surrounds a cantilevered pin (37) having a split expander ring (35a, 35b) near a free end thereof. Upon excessive piston (17) travel, the sleeve moves along the expander ring (35a, 35b) to establish a new retracted piston position.

  • Patent number: 5476128
Abstract: A wheel rim assembly (10) includes a first bead flange, and a separable second bead flange (16), the separable second bead flange (16) maintained on a wheel rim (12) of the wheel rim assembly (10) by a retaining ring assembly (20). The retaining ring assembly (20) includes an outboard portion (22) which is partially disposed within an axial opening (18) between the second bead flange (16) and wheel rim (12). The second bead flange (16) and the wheel rim (12) each include an oppositely disposed complementary shaped lobe groove (13, 17) communicating with the axial opening (18). Disposed within the axial opening (18) is a flexible composite corrosion seal (30) comprising a generally rectangularly shaped central flexible member (32) joined with a radially extending flexible base member (35) having a plurality of axially extending protrusions (40) and oppositely disposed, spaced apart flexible lobe members (38, 39) each received within a respective lobe groove (13, 17).

  • Patent number: 5340124
Abstract: A seal retention and anti-rotation locking assembly (20) is positioned within an aircraft wheel hub (10). The wheel hub (10) has a groove (26) disposed about the periphery of a central opening (12), the groove (26) receiving therein a complementary shaped single retaining ring (32). The retaining ring (32) is a split ring having first (33) and second (37) ends located adjacent one another. The first end (33) has a first increased axial width portion (34) with a recess (35) located therein and extending at an acute angle relative to a radius of the central opening (12). The second end (37) has a second increased axial width portion (38) located radially inwardly from the outer diameter (45) of the retaining ring (32) such that the second increased axial width portion (38) is located exteriorly of the groove (26). The groove (26) includes an enlarged axial portion (28) shaped complementary with and receiving the first increased axial width portion (34) to anchor circumferentially the retaining ring.

  • Patent number: 5044782
Abstract: The sealed tapered roller bearing assembly (10, 111, 211, 311) of the present invention comprises a bearing assembly (10, 111, 211, 311) which may be removed or serviced without destroying or damaging the assembly (10, 111, 211, 311). Inner and outer races (30, 40) contain tapered rollers (60) therebetween, and a positioning ring (70) is disposed intimately about the outer race (40) as a result of the outer race (40) and ring (70) being pressfitted together. The ring (70) extends from an axial portion (76) to a radial portion (78) which becomes an angled feed tapered section (80) that extends into a first end member axial part (82). The tapered section (80), axial part (82) and a dam seal (90) define a lubricant dam area (100) about a first end of a space (95) between the races (30, 40).

  • Patent number: 4862738
Abstract: The wheel bearing test system (10) comprises a wheel (20) and bearings (40) mounted on an axle mechanism in order to effect realistic testing of the bearings (40). The axle mechanism (30) comprises a mandrel assembly (30) which is attached to a T-shaped connecting member (50). An axial load application mechanism (60) is disposed substantially coaxially with the axle mechanism (30), and is attached to one leg (52) of the T-shaped connecting member (50). A pair of radial and moment load application mechanisms (72, 74) are attached to the top legs (54, 56) of the T-shaped connecting member (50) and disposed substantially orthogonally relative to the axle mechanism (30). A motor (12) is connected with a wheel attachment fixture (18), the attachment fixture (18) fixed to the wheel (20) in order to effect rotation thereof. Operation of the wheel bearing test system (10) imposes realistic axial, radial, and moment loading upon the bearings (40) in their intended operational environment.
