  • Publication number: 20160334002
Abstract: The invention is directed to a power transmission system including a noise isolation and control system. In an example, a bearing support member is arranged to support bearings which in turn support high speed conical rotors. The bearing support member itself is not rigidly fastened to the outer case of the mechanism. The bearing support member is not directly attached to the outer case, but is supported in the case by radially oriented attachment members which inhibit or do not transmit radial vibrations to the case. In this way, the vibration, or noise, produced by the high speed conical rotors and their bearings and driving gears, is effectively isolated from and not transmitted to the outer case. The invention also relates to a control system to provide for optimization of the power transmission system operation.

  • Publication number: 20160245383
Abstract: A variable ratio gearbox is combined with a drive motor and an interactive control system. A coaxial shaft connects to a differential gear set to power an output shaft. The transmission has a drive shaft with an inner shaft and an outer shaft. A friction disk nonrotatably mounts to said outer shaft and a shifter connected to the friction disk moves the friction disk along the outer shaft. At least two cones engage the periphery of the friction disk and a differential gear set combines the rotation of the inner and outer shaft.

  • Publication number: 20030201125
Abstract: The present invention relates to providing a drill bit stabilizing system and methods which overcome the above noted problems. The at least one stabilizing member is biased to a second extended operating position. The body member further comprises at least one fixed stabilizing surface positioned in axially spaced relationship to the at least one movable stabilizing member. In another aspect, the invention is directed to a drill bit stabilizing system comprising a body member and at least one stabilizing member, being moveable from an extended operating position to a retracted position within the body member. The at least one stabilizing member comprises outer contact faces adapted to engage the walls of a bore hole when in an operating position, and an inner slide surface adapted to slidingly engage a corresponding slide surface formed in the body member. There is also provided a method of drilling a bore hole using a drill bit rotated in conjunction with a drill string.

  • Patent number: 6001042
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a continuously variable transmission for varying the speed ratio of an output shaft relative to an input shaft driven by a vehicle engine or other input power source. In an embodiment of the invention, the power transmission system includes a driven input member coupled in driving engagement with at least one rotor to transfer torque to the rotor. A disk member is positioned in cooperative relationship with a rotatable shaft and in a driving engagement with the rotor, such that the disk member is driven to transfer torque to the rotatable shaft. An output member is driven by the rotatable shaft, and torque is transferred from the shaft to the output member, with the disk member being selectively axially moveable relative to the rotor and to the rotatable shaft in response to output load torque on the output member so as to vary the torque transferred from the rotor.

  • Patent number: 4856601
Abstract: A drill bit has a cylindrical main body, a formation cutting face at the lower end of the body, and means by which the upper end of the bit can be connected into a drill string. A drilling fluid flow passageway extends axially through the main body and provides flow of drilling fluid to the drilling face. The passageway contains flow restrictions for balancing the flow of drilling fluid onto the bit face. The restrictors contain diffusing stages for reducing the velocity of the drilling fluid. Flow isolating paths are formed on the bit face to prevent diversion or channeling of fluid flow on the bit face.

  • Patent number: 4842083
Abstract: A stabilizer for driving and radially stabilizing a drill bit. The stabilizer has a fluid passage therethrough for passage of drilling fluid to the drill bit. The stabilizer includes radially extendable wedge-like members for stabilizing abutment thereof with a borehole wall; means affected by drilling fluid pressure or spring tension for controlling extension and retraction of the wedge-like members; and, inclined slide surfaces for frictional interaction with the wedge-like members to prevent radial movement of said stabilizer relative to a borehole.

  • Patent number: 4690229
Abstract: A stabilized drill bit has a cylindrical main body, a formation cutting face at the lower end of the body, and means by which the upper end of the bit can be connected into a drill string. A drilling fluid flow passageway extends axially through the main body and provides flow of drilling fluid to the drilling face. A plurality of hydraulic actuated stabilizing members are arranged circumferentially about the throat and within the main body. Stabilizing members have a borehole wall engaging face thereon which can be retracted flush with the outer surface of the main body, and extended away from the main body face and into contact with the borehole wall, thereby stabilizing the drill bit as the bit is rotated while making hole.
