  • Patent number: 10575051
Abstract: Provided is an enhanced television system and method including a television display in communication with a broadcast enhancement pathway via a first communication interface of the television display and with a video connection via a second communication interface of the television display. The television display receives and displays uncompressed video data from a digital video stream carried over the video connection from a video source and enhancement data from the broadcast enhancement pathway. The digital video stream includes embedded base programming identification metadata. The television display receives the enhancement data from the broadcast enhancement pathway without the enhancement data passing through the video source; and extracts a base identification tag from the embedded base programming identification metadata. The enhancement data received from the broadcast enhancement pathway associated with the base identification tag is combined with the digital video stream.

  • Patent number: 9066154
Abstract: Provided is an enhanced television system and method including a television receiver in communication with a broadcast reception tuner. The television receiver is configured to receive and display video data from a video stream and enhancement data from the reception tuner. The video stream includes embedded base programming identification metadata, and the television receiver is further configured to extract a base identification tag from the embedded base programming identification metadata, and combine enhancement data received from the reception tuner associated with the base identification tag with the video stream. The video stream may then be displayed.

  • Publication number: 20130212621
Abstract: Provided is a method and system for caching broadcast segments provided by a broadcaster. Included are: obtaining signaling of particular program segments from the broadcaster using non-real-time data casting, obtaining an ATSC broadcast stream from the broadcaster, saving the particular program element segments to a high-priority broadcast cache and, tuning to a broadcast and saving program elements to a low-priority network cache. Also included are determining if the playback segment has an associated URL and allowing clients to obtain playback elements using a Web access method or a media distribution protocol if so. Otherwise, obtaining playback elements through only a media distribution method such as DLNA. In either case the obtained and cached elements are then reconstructed into a single coherent stream for continuous play.

  • Patent number: 6177930
Abstract: An interactive presentation system receives a plurality of series of digital data segments (e.g., image frames), each series of digital data segments appearing at the video presentation system on a repetitive, cyclic basis. Each digital data segment includes a first data portion from which an image can be constructed and a second data portion which includes information relating to the image and further includes, if required, information which links an active area of the image to another data source. The system includes an interface for receiving the repetitively transmitted series of digital data segments and a switch for selecting at least one of the received series of digital data segments. A display presents an image that is constructed from the first data portion of a data segment that is included in a series of digital data segments.

  • Patent number: 6047317
Abstract: A video presentation system receives a plurality of series of digital data segments (e.g., image frames) that are cyclically transmitted, wherein certain of the digital data segments manifest a higher priority and are present in the form of plural, time-spaced copies during a series of the digital data segments. The system includes an interface for receiving the repetitively transmitted series of digital data segments and a switch for selecting at least one of the received series of digital data segments. A display presents an image that is constructed from a digital data segment that is selected by a user. By providing plural copies of higher priority digital data segments in each series, a reduction in image access time results when the user selects one of the higher priority digital data segments. A set-top box which serves as the receiver can also be provided with sufficient memory to buffer a certain number of the higher priority digital data segments.
