  • Patent number: 6311222
Abstract: An apparatus for translating a message between a first transmission protocol to a second transmission protocol limits buffer sizes for storing incoming and outcoming message data. To that end, each message has a message size that is no larger than a maximum message size, and the first protocol transports message data with message envelopes having an envelope size that is no larger than a maximum envelope size. The apparatus further includes a first protocol interface for interfacing with first protocol devices that communicate via the first protocol, a second protocol interface for interfacing with second protocol devices that communicate via the second protocol, and control logic that couples the first protocol interface with the second protocol interface.

  • Patent number: 6226676
Abstract: A method, translating apparatus, apparatus comprising a computer readable medium, and system for establishing and terminating an end-to-end connection in a mixed protocol communication network includes a translation function that communicates with a first device using a first communication protocol and a second device using a second communication protocol. In order to establish an end-to-end connection, the translation function receives a first data message from the first device, establishes a connection with the second device, and transmits a second data message to the second device. In order to terminate an end-to-end connection, the translation function receives a reset message from the first device, terminates the connection with the second device, and transmits a reset confirmation message to the first device.

  • Patent number: 4731547
Abstract: Utility charges associated with peak electrical power demands constitute an increasing portion of utility bills associated with large commercial consumers of electricity. The instant invention provides an apparatus for reducing the peak electrical demand of a predetermined user operational unit from an electrical power distribution network by controllably operating at least one secondary electrical generator associated with the operational unit in parallel with the utility power distribution network. The secondary electrical generator includes a switch for connecting the generator in parallel with the utility network in response to receiving a transfer command signal. A transducer senses the actual peak power demand of the operational unit from the utility network and produces a demand signal having a value responsive to the sensed actual peak power demand. A memory element controllably stores a plurality of control parameters including a demand setpoint value.
