  • Patent number: 9415176
Abstract: An autoinjector that automatically retracts a needle contained therein includes an injection assembly, having a plunger and a movable piston coupled to the plunger, a retraction assembly coupled to the injection assembly, and an end-of-dose visual indicator disposed within the retraction assembly. The retraction assembly includes an opaque section, a transparent or translucent section coupled to the opaque section, and a drug container having a hypodermic needle. The end-of-dose visual indicator is disposed within the retraction assembly such that the indicator moves upwardly from the opaque section of the retraction assembly to the transparent or translucent section of the retraction assembly upon full administration of a drug solution or medicine contained within the drug container. The end-of-dose visual indicator may be configured according to many preferred embodiments, among which may include a hollow cylinder, a split indicator ring, a co-extruded ring, and a multi-faceted polygonal cylinder.

A flat surface 276 is formed in the stem 174 and extends angularly away from an opposite side of the slot 176 and from the extended side wall 176b to provide a wide slot opening at an external surface 195 of the stem for dispensing a cream from the opening. A trough-like cleft 306 can be formed in the external surface 195 of a solid portion of the stem 174, distally of the slot 176, to provide an axially-extended path for the cream being dispensed through the slot.

  • Patent number: 7988675
Abstract: An automatic injection and retraction device having a longitudinal axis is provided that includes an injection assembly, a retraction assembly, and a pre-filled syringe cartridge. The injection assembly has an activation-prevention feature moveable between an on position and an off position. The retraction assembly has a needle guard that is removable in a direction along the longitudinal axis upon application of a removal force. The pre-filled syringe cartridge has a hypodermic needle with a needle sheath thereon. The retraction and injection assemblies are secured to one another so that the pre-filled syringe cartridge is in the retraction assembly with the needle sheath secured to the needle guard. The retraction and injection assemblies are configured so that, upon application of a twisting torque to the injection and retraction assemblies, the activation-prevention feature moves from the on position to the off position simultaneous with applying the removal force to the needle guard.

  • Patent number: 7736333
Abstract: An automatic mixing and injecting apparatus comprises a syringe assembly (400) within a housing (100). The syringe assembly (400) has a chamber (425) for holding a liquid, which can be a liquid medicine or a solvent. A second chamber (460) may hold a dry medicine. The second chamber (460) is releasably sealed with respect to the first chamber (425). A spring-operated plunger (300) forces liquid from the first chamber (425) and causes the releasable seal (430) to disengage when the needle (540) has entered the recipient. At this time, the liquid flows through the second chamber (460) and dissolves any dry medicine in that chamber (460). A releasable coupling (340) disengages the plunger (300) from the driver spring (500) and allows the plunger (300), syringe assembly (400), and needle (540) to retract under the urging of a return spring (505).

  • Patent number: 6336914
Abstract: A releasable interlock assembly having axial and rotational engagement, and suitable for use in catheter introducers and other medical devices, has a tapered female member which receives a tapered male member. The female member has protrusions which engage corresponding grooves on the male member. The grooves have a generally axially aligned portion and a generally circumferentially aligned portion, terminating in a pocket to receive the corresponding protrusion on the female member. The depth of the each groove decreases from the open axially aligned end to a point just before the pocket, causing a dimensional interference which prevents the protrusion from disengaging the pocket axially, unless deliberately rotated by an operator.
