  • Publication number: 20110198024
Abstract: A deformable label processor and related methods are described. The processor is heated and urged against a label, such as a heat transfer label, to apply one or more designs from the label onto a container or other surface. The processor and methods are well suited for application of labels onto compound curved surfaces. Also described are high volume label application processes using assemblies of multiple label processors. Additional assemblies and methods are described for selectively contacting and adhering regions of a label onto a moving container during labeling operations.

  • Patent number: 6689314
Abstract: A method for inducing oxygen scavenging within paperboard package structures using ultraviolet light to activate the scavenging material during the filling process or prior to the filling process for gable-type paperboard packages. An ultraviolet light source is placed in close proximity to a gable-top blank or along the horizontal chain or line following bottom formation and prior to filling a carton with product.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 2, 2001
Date of Patent: February 10, 2004
    Assignee: International Paper Company
Inventors: Alexander Craig Bushman, Gregory J. Castle, Richard D. Pastor, Tricia S. Reighard
  • Patent number: 6451423
Abstract: The invention addresses the use of a composite carbon dioxide scavenging filler which has been dispersed uniformly into a polymeric matrix. The resultant layer can then be coated or laminated onto a paper, paperboard, foil, or other substrates. It can also be made into a cast or blown film. The carbon dioxide scavenging structure thus created desirably contains a polymeric matrix binder as the filler dispersion medium, one or more particular carbon dioxide scavenging fillers, one or more moisture producing/retaining agents or moisture retaining agents, and, optionally, one or more polymeric or surfactant dispersion/wetting agents aiding the wetting and the uniform dispersion of the fillers in the matrix. This allows products contained in a package, such as roasted coffee, or produce, to maintain freshness and counteract pressure buildup in a package which results in bulging, rupture, loss of freshness, poor shelf appearance, and increased anaerobic bacterial activity.
