  • Publication number: 20140024276
Abstract: A method of repairing a composite component having a damaged area including: laying a composite patch over the damaged area; activating the shape memory polymer resin to easily and quickly mold said patch to said damaged area; deactivating said shape memory polymer so that said composite patch retains the molded shape; and bonding said composite patch to said damaged part.
    Type: Application
    Filed: September 27, 2013
    Publication date: January 23, 2014
    Applicant: Cornerstone Research Group, Inc.
Inventors: Patrick Joseph Hood, Sean Patrick Garrigan, Frank Auffinger, III, Tat Hung Tong, Benjamin John Vining, Richard Douglas Hreha, Thomas Joseph Barnell
  • Patent number: 8039572
Abstract: Cyanate ester shape memory polymers (SMP). The polymers are preferably formed via reaction of a multifunctional cyanate ester and a mono functional cyanate ester and exist, in one inventive aspect, in the form of a cross-linked thermoset network. Optional catalysts and structural modifiers may be added to the reaction moieties to help control the glass transition temperature of the resulting SMP to greater than 0° C., preferably from about 150° C.-300° C.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 5, 2005
Date of Patent: October 18, 2011
    Assignee: Cornerstone Research Group, Inc.
