  • Publication number: 20190154299
Abstract: A packaged terminal air conditioner unit (PTAC) includes a vent aperture defined in a bulkhead of the PTAC and a fan assembly for urging a flow of make-up air through the vent aperture. The fan assembly includes a fan duct attached to the bulkhead and defining a flow passage in fluid communication with the vent aperture and an auxiliary fan mounted to the fan duct for urging the flow of make-up air through the vent aperture. An isolation member formed from a resilient material, such as an elastomeric or rubber material, is positioned between the auxiliary fan and the fan duct to reduce vibrations generated by the auxiliary fan.

  • Patent number: 10288301
Abstract: A heating system for an air conditioner unit may generally include a heating coil and a thermostat supported above the heating coil by a support mount. The system may also include a thermostat hood configured to at least partially surround the thermostat. The thermostat hood may include a front wall spaced apart from the support mount and a top wall extending between the front wall and the support mount. The thermostat hood may further include first and second sidewalls extending between the front wall and the support mount. The front wall, the top wall, the sidewalls and the support mount may collectively define a hood chamber for receiving at least a portion of the thermostat. Moreover, at least a portion of the bottom side of the thermostat hood may define an air intake opening for receiving heated air rising upward from the heating coil.

  • Publication number: 20190128546
Abstract: Air conditioner units, including methods of operation, are provided herein. The air conditioner unit may include an indoor portion, an outdoor portion, and a compressor in fluid communication between the indoor portion and the outdoor portion. The method may include setting an operating temperature of the indoor portion based on a primary temperature target, determining a humidity value at the indoor portion, comparing the determined humidity value to a humidity threshold, resetting the operating temperature as a temporary temperature target when the determined humidity value is above the humidity threshold and the primary temperature target is reached at the indoor portion of the air conditioner, and directing refrigerant compression at the compressor based on the operating temperature.

  • Patent number: 10274213
Abstract: An air conditioning system and a method of operating the same are provided. The air conditioning system includes a refrigeration loop having a variable speed compressor for circulating a refrigerant through an outdoor heat exchanger, a first expansion device, a hybrid heat exchanger, a second expansion device, and an indoor heat exchanger. The air conditioning system is operated in one of four modes depending on the indoor temperature and humidity relative to target values. The modes include an air conditioning mode, a dehumidification mode, an idle mode, and a reheat mode in which the first expansion device is fully opened and the second expansion device throttles the refrigerant to achieve a target temperature difference across the hybrid heat exchanger.

  • Publication number: 20180313555
Abstract: An air conditioning system and a method of operating the same to dehumidify air from an indoor space without overly cooling that air is provided. The air conditioning system includes an outdoor heat exchanger, an indoor heat exchanger, and a reheat heat exchanger. Indoor air passes through the indoor heat exchanger where it is dehumidified before passing through the reheat heat exchanger where it is reheated using thermal energy from a refrigerant. An outdoor fan urges a flow of ambient air through the outdoor heat exchanger to extract thermal energy from the refrigerant before it passes to the reheat heat exchanger. The speed of the outdoor fan is adjusted to control an amount of thermal energy extracted from a refrigerant passing through the outdoor heat exchanger and thus the thermal energy supplied to the reheat heat exchanger for reheating the dehumidified air to a target temperature.

  • Patent number: 9920962
Abstract: A packaged terminal air conditioner unit is provided. The packaged terminal air conditioner unit can include a heater bank jumper configured to couple one or more heater banks to a controller associated with the packaged terminal air conditioner unit. The heater bank jumper can be selectively configurable to provide at least one shunt line to couple at least one contact point associated with the controller to at least one contact point associated with the one or more heater banks. In this manner, the heater bank jumper can be configured based at least in part on an amount of current provided to the packaged terminal air conditioner unit by an electric service.
