  • Patent number: 7912315
Abstract: An imager captures light reflecting off an object of interest and generates two or more images of the object. A controller identifies artifacts in one of the captured images and defines one or more non-interpretation regions in a binary image. The non-interpretation regions include pixels representative of the artifacts and do not include pixels representative of the object of interest. The controller performs pixel operations on the pixels in the binary image to reduce a number of artifacts in a final image.

  • Patent number: 7796119
Abstract: A system for generating position information includes a first set of image data, a second set of image data, and a processor. The first set of image data is generated to indicate the position of a surface plane marker. The second set of image data is generated to indicate the position of a retroreflector. The processor is configured to receive the first and second sets of image data and to generate position information indicative of the relative position of the surface plane marker relative to the retroreflector.

  • Patent number: 6678435
Abstract: An optical switch having an insulator under a heater element is disclosed. The insulator reduces the heat loss thereby making the switch more efficient. The insulator is fabricated embedded in the underlying substrate on which the heater and the optical intersection are fabricated. A method of fabricating the optical switch having an insulator is disclosed. A trench is etched on the substrate and filled with oxide or other suitable insulating material. Then, the heater and the optical intersection are fabricated above the insulator.

  • Publication number: 20030077027
Abstract: The present invention provides an optical switch in which generated bubbles displace a droplet to change the transmission characteristics of an optical path. A structure defines a cavity that is divided into first and second chambers that are in fluid communication with each other. The structure also defines an optical path that intersects the first chamber. The cavity is filled with a combination of liquids including a droplet and a displaceable liquid. Generating a bubble in the chamber containing the droplet moves the droplet to the other chamber, displacing the other liquid accordingly; the bubbles can be generating by heating resistors adjacent to each of the chambers. The index of refraction of the droplet differs from that of the displaceable liquid so that moving the droplet changes the transmission characteristics of the optical path.

  • Patent number: 4423191
Abstract: A method for curing a resinous composition comprising an admixture of a thermosetting resin and dielectrically lossy particles is described wherein the lossy particles have a dielectric constant substantially the same as the dielectric constant of the resin. The method comprises subjecting said admixture to a high frequency alternating electric field for sufficient time to heat the lossy particles and initiate the chemical reaction to cure the resin. Also described are shaped articles of manufacture made by curing resinous compositions in accord with the described method. Such articles have enhanced mechanical properties due to the curing process.
