  • Publication number: 20120284852
Abstract: The present invention relates to diploid, fertile, self-compatible and essentially homozygous potato lines, wherein said lines comprise an agronomically desirable trait such as vigour. The invention further relates to methods for producing such plants and to hybrid seeds obtained by crossing such homozygous potato lines and to potato plants grown from said see.

  • Publication number: 20120240284
Abstract: The invention relates to a resistance gene and functional homologues or fragments thereof isolated from S. chacoense, S. berthaultii, S. sucrense or S. tarijense. More over, the invention relates to the use of said resistance gene, for example the use of said resistance gene in a method to increase or confer at least partial resistance in a plant to an oomycete infection. The invention provides an isolated or recombinant nucleic acid sequence comprising a nucleic acid sequence encoding one of the amino acid sequences of FIG. 4 or a functional fragment or a functional homologue thereof such as those presented in FIG. 13.

  • Publication number: 20100162437
Abstract: The invention relates to a resistance gene and functional homologues or fragments thereof isolated from S. bulbocastanum. More over, the invention relates to the use of said resistance gene, for example the use of said resistance gene in a method to increase or confer at least partial resistance in a plant to an oomycte infection. The invention provides an isolated or recombinant nucleic acid sequence comprising a nucleic acid sequence encoding one of the amino acid sequences of FIG. 6 or a functional fragment or a functional homologue thereof.

  • Publication number: 20100146662
Abstract: The invention relates to the field of plant transformation, in particular plant transformation of a Solanaceae, preferably of potato. The present invention provides an alternative selection method in plant transformation processes. The invention further provides a plant that has been provided with additional nucleic acid sequences but which genetically modified plant essentially consists of cis plant sequences, for example a genetically modified potato plant that has been provided with additional (essentially) potato plant sequences. Such a transgenic plant is free from non-Solanum T-DNA border sequences. A preferred embodiment is a potato plant that carries a functional R-gene, providing resistance against an oomycete pathogen, preferably Phytophthora infestans, wherein said R-gene can be used as selectable marker.

  • Patent number: 6600093
Abstract: A potato plant which has a genome containing, as a result of genetic engineering, at least one gene construct containing a potato granule-bound starch synthase (PGBSS) cDNA or genomic DNA sequence in reverse or functional orientation in an expression cassette which is functional in potato plants, the gene construct giving rise to tubers containing essentially amylose-free starch. In one embodiment, the gene construct contains a PGBSS cDNA sequence in reverse orientation which results in the production of PGBSS antisense RNA.

  • Patent number: 6551827
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing protoplasts of cassava or closely related species, which protoplasts are capable of regeneration into plants. The method comprises producing friable embryogenic callus from explants of cassava or closely related species and isolating protoplasts from said friable embryogenic callus. The invention also concerns protoplasts obtainable by said method. The invention further relates to a method for transforming such a protoplast of cassava or closely related species, and transformed protoplasts obtainable thereby. In addition, the invention concerns a method for regenerating plants from these protoplasts and a cassava plant or closely related species obtainable thereby.
