Publication number: 20180159183Abstract: Methods and systems for detecting and compensating for expansion of rechargeable batteries over time. An expansion detector may be coupled to or positioned proximate a rechargeable battery to monitor for expansion thereof. After expansion exceeding a selected threshold is detected, the expansion detector may report the expansion to an associated processing unit. The processing unit may undertake to arrest further rechargeable battery expansion by modifying or changing one or more characteristics of charging and/or discharging circuitry coupled to the rechargeable battery. For example, the processing unit may charge the rechargeable battery at a lower rate or with reduced voltage after detecting expansion.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 25, 2018Publication date: June 7, 2018Inventors: Daniel W. Publication number: 20180152549Abstract: A handheld electronic device may be provided that contains a conductive housing and other conductive elements. The conductive elements may form an antenna ground plane. One or more antennas for the handheld electronic device may be formed from the ground plane and one or more associated antenna resonating elements. Transceiver circuitry may be connected to the resonating elements by transmission lines such as coaxial cables. Ferrules may be crimped to the coaxial cables. A bracket with extending members may be crimped over the ferrules to ground the coaxial cables to the housing and other conductive elements in the ground plane. The ground plane may contain an antenna slot. A dock connector and flex circuit may overlap the slot in a way that does not affect the resonant frequency of the slot. Electrical components may be isolated from the antenna using isolation elements such as inductors and resistors.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 29, 2018Publication date: May 31, 2018Applicant: Apple Inc.Inventors: Phillip Michael Hobson, Erik L. Patent number: 9967375Abstract: An electronic device having liquid-resistant modifications that prevent liquid ingress into an opening (or openings) in an enclosure of the electronic device is disclosed. For example, the electronic device may include a coating formed from a liquid-resistant material that is applied internally to the enclosure. The electronic device may further include a frame that carries a protective transparent layer designed to cover a display assembly. In order to secure the frame with the enclosure, the electronic device may include an adhesive assembly disposed over an outer perimeter of the coating. The adhesive assembly may include several adhesive parts initially separate from one another. However, with the adhesive parts between the frame and the enclosure, the adhesive parts can be compressed by the frame and the enclosure, causing the adhesive parts to expand and engage each other. As a result, the coating and the adhesive parts provide a seal against liquid.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2017Date of Patent: May 8, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Xiao Ying Zhao, Timothy S. Patent number: 9872094Abstract: This application relates to an audio assembly that includes both a speaker assembly and a microphone. By mounting both the microphone and the speaker assembly to a unitary audio bracket, space savings can be achieved over a configuration that relies on separate brackets for each component. In some embodiments, an acoustic mesh can be embedded within the audio bracket and extending across an audio channel defined by the audio bracket. The microphone can be aligned with an opening in the audio bracket by an alignment clip that is coupled with the microphone. The alignment clip helps to achieve alignment of a sensor opening of the microphone with a channel defined by the audio bracket.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2015Date of Patent: January 16, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Robert F.
