    Abstract: Described herein is a module for covering a surface with vegetation. The module comprises a drainage board having an upper surface for supporting a growth medium. The drainage board has a plurality of moisture receptacles extending downwardly from the upper surface for collecting moisture. The module also comprises a plurality of sidewalls having a multiplicity of apertures therethrough. Each sidewall is coupled to the drainage board and extends upwardly therefrom. The sidewalls cooperate with each other so as to provide a perimeter for surrounding the growth medium. The module may also include other features. For example, the sidewalls may be pivotally coupled to the drainage board (e.g. along a living hinge), the module may include couplers for securing adjacent modules together, the sidewalls may include a reinforcing rib, the drainage board may include an opening for receiving an irrigation nozzle therein, and there may be edging for covering the sidewalls.

    Abstract: A thermoelectric heat pump or power source device is provided with P-type and N-type elements made of either thin films or thick films for use on flexible or nonflexible substrates. For flexible units the film type elements are formed on substrates of such flexible, electrically insulation material as, for example, MYLAR and TEFLON; while for inflexible units the elements are formed on substrates of such materials as, for example, Beryllia, Alumina, ceramics, or plastics. Further, the elements are patterned on the different substrates for particular usages. For example, radial element patterns used for cooling hot spots and ladder element patterns are used for cooling linear hot bodies. Ladder element patterns may also be used on flexible substrates to be folded to form corrugations having cold strips and hot strips on opposing sides to which sheets of suitable material can be attached to form panels, blankets, therapeutic devices or pipe covers for heating or cooling their contents as desired.

    Abstract: Alternating current is applied to a bi-directional triode thyristor (triac) and a zero voltage switch, the zero voltage switch controls the operation of the triac to selectively heat a heater element, the thermal energy of the heater element drives a first thermoelectric heat pump (module), acting as a dc power generator, to produce power to drive a second thermoelectric heat pump acting as a cooling or heating source, towards a preselected temperature, a thermally sensitive resistor (thermistor) senses the temperature and generates a resistance corresponding to the temperature, the thermistor is connected to the zero voltage switch in series with a temperature set point resistor (potentiometer) and source of power to form a voltage divider input to the zero voltage switch, whereby when the resistance of the thermistor substantially equals that of the temperature set point resistor the zero voltage switch inhibits the trigger pulses to the triac to cut off ac current to the heater element.
