  • Patent number: 7699145
Abstract: An elevator brake assembly (16) includes a plate (26) having damper assemblies (28) including at least one spring (30) for controlling movement of the plate (26) relative to a magnetic field generator (20). A biasing member (36) forces the plate (26) into engagement with a disk (22) fixed to a rotating shaft (18). A force created by the magnetic field generator (20) overcomes force of the biasing member (32) to draw the plate (26) into contact with the magnetic field generator (20). The impact between the plate (26) and the magnetic field generator (20) is controlled by the damping assembly (28) to substantially reduce impact noise.

  • Patent number: 7410033
Abstract: A device (30) for making electrically conductive contact with at least one tension member in an elevator belt (22) also provides a restraining feature to support loads on the belt. A connector portion (32) is secured to the belt. In one example, the connector portion (32) includes clamping members (40, 42) that are received on opposite sides of the belt. One of the clamping members supports a plurality of electrically conductive connector members (52) that establish electrical contact with selected tension members (24) within the belt (22). A plurality of load transferring members (66) are supported by the other clamping member in one example. A restraining portion (34) is adapted to be secured in a fixed position relative to a selected structure (36) within the elevator system.

  • Patent number: 6994487
Abstract: A device for securing an end on a load bearing member in an elevator system includes a socket portion and a wedge portion. The socket and wedge preferably are made from an extruded piece of metal or a formed piece of sheet metal material. A brace member secures the wedge within the socket portion to maintain the wedge, and the corresponding portion of the load bearing member in place within the socket portion. The preferred arrangement includes friction enhancing surfaces on the corresponding portions of the socket and the wedge to facilitate maintaining the load bearing member in place.

  • Patent number: 6405833
Abstract: A segmented elevator sheave assembly has independently variable shoulder and crowning elements for use with flexible flat ropes in an elevator system. This enables selection of high-traction surface finish and crowning for the sheave groove that contacts a belt, and of low-traction, smooth sheave groove shoulders having a low friction coefficient that may inadvertently contact the belt side surfaces. This configuration is more forgiving to angular misalignment of the sheave and reduces the likelihood of premature degradation of a flat flexible rope due side-surface scuffing along sheave groove shoulders.
